I am thinking of trading my samick for this electra. Yet I have no idea of the model number and what not. But if you guys could help me out the best you can, it would be greatly appreciated. I know the bass is from the 60's though if that helps any.

It's definitely a PCM Electra- do a search here for PCM and you'll see that means that it -could- be poor quality.

And yet I know two occasions where people had PCM basses identical to this, and who said it was absolutely first-rate. I think that's likely. This instrument was answering a popular demand, and it was a premium deal. Unlike a flimsy strat copy, these got attention to detail.

And yet, and yet. Buyer beware, but this could also be an opportunity.

If your'e a collector, you can't go wrong. Samicks are common and Electra basses like this are rare.

If you're a player, be very careful. By all means play it and trust your feelings. Dont worry if the action is high, that can be fixed. What I'd watch for is a neck that's too flimsy, and bends out of tune too easily. Also, japanese hollowbody archtops of this era had trouble with the whole neck pocket warping in relation to teh body. IF so, the action will be absurdly high. this can be fixed by shiimming, but I'd be cautious of making such a one a player.

Bottom line: check it out, it could very well be a real winner, but be cautious, it could also bo not so.

Thank you for the reply, I'm not at all a bass player. But I would like something from the 60's if it is worth the trade, however I'm not a big fan of garbage either lol. I will do some research before doing this trade for sure, yet like you said it could be a winner. So if I back out it's basiclly my loss on something great. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place on this, because like I said I don't play bass and I know very little to nothing about them.

trust your personal sense about fit and finish- does it seem good quality?

my guess is all of these are good, but i wouldn't want to promise and be wrong.
