So, I have had this guitar for a few years, it looks like an ES-335 but all it has on the headstock and pick guard is an X. Recently I stumble across a picture online of a bass headstock with the same X, but it also said Electra on it. I'm not sure if my guitar is an Electra or not.

So, I've been having trouble uploading the photos, so I've attached a link to my photobucket album of the guitar. The first pic is the bass, followed by my guitar. Let me know if you think my guitar is actually an Electra.

This does look to be an early model Electra(PCM Pacific Coast Music the sister company of SLM) These PCM models had the X logo and also would have had the same style Electra logo as the Bass in the form of a metal Tag on headstock or the transfer as the Bass has. My guess is that this one had the Metal Electra tab and it was removed or fell off. Nice Axe.Hope this helps. I would think that if you look under the pickup covers you will most likely find a single coil pickup. 8)

I agree with mortarman's deduction. The 'X' was unique to the PCM offerings (although not all PCM's had them...), and we've seen lots of Electra's (both SLM and PCM) with the logo covered up, removed or otherwise doctored. Of course now we know better, but for decades Japanese guitars were looked down upon, and uncultured owners would do anything to avoid being identified with a Japanese guitar.
