Hey all -

This has been in my family for quite a few years now, but we're not sure which kind of Electra it is exactly. We know it's not in the best condition. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

That is an X2RD Futura that was made from 1983-1984. It looks like the bridge has been replaced because the original hardware on the Red Futura was all black. To decode the serial number - the first digit is the year (3=1983, 4=1984) the next 2 digits are the month it was built and the last digits show how many were made that month (1135= 1135th one produced that month so far). 23 minutes Ron... not too shabby!

The Futura was one of those conceptual designs, and players usually either love it or hate it... not too many on the fence, a very polarizing guitar. One of the cool features was the same push/pull setup found on the Endorsers and a few other models. The top tone knob pulls out for single coil operation, and the bottom tone push/pull reverses the phase on the Bridge pickup giving users eight different tones, pretty versatile for a mid priced instrument.

Even pristine examples rarely sell for more than $300 or so, just the messenger here. Most of the Electra line suffers this same lack of respect. Some day the world will catch on and these Guitars will be worth more. Welcome aboard, Mike.
