This was my first guitar, and still my favorite. Any help identifying the year and maybe some history would be greatly appreciated. From what I can gather it is a 2245 Super Rock Sunburst...but what year? I bought it from Cotton Music in Nashville when I was 10. Mr. Cotton advised me to buy it saying, "This guitar will be worth something someday". He was right, it's priceless to me.

Welcome aboard! She's a real looker. With the 'Open Book' headstock, we know it was made before 1976, with those 'Star' Tuners, I'd guess around 1973, give or take six months. I had a LP with the real pointy diamond-shaped Control Cavity cover like yours, and with its semi-chambered top, it was a very lively player.

The top is (typically) a multi layered laminate that has been steamed into its current curved shape, creating a number of gaps between it and the body of the guitar. The opinion on this design has changed over the years, originally it was poo-poo'd as being a cheap manufacturing technique not worthy of a performance instrument, however, today many players think this helps make the top more resonant and "Lively" than a solid carved top. If you tap around the top, you will be able to hear the different spots where these unintended 'chambers' are located. I really liked mine (Arthur has it now!), and it sounds like you do too. Congrats, and tell us if you've owned any other Electra's over the years, Mike.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for all the information that really helped. 1973, wow. That's awesome! Unintended chambers, okay that explains why it is so vocal whenever I've used it live..I've owned a few Gibson LP's over the years and the 2245 has them beat.
As far as other Electras go I have a X 930 Vulcan that my buddy gave me to sell but I've been playing it for the last couple of years....he hasn't asked and I haven't said a word.
This forum is great and once again thank you for the info. -Matt
