Hey guys...I am new to the board and I really need some help. Last night I bought an Electra Les Paul electric guitar with a broken headstock for $30. I was told by a guy at Electra that it has to be post 1977 because the headstock has the wave. It is black and is trimmed in gold, has 4 knobs and a black pick guard. It also has a bolt on neck. The trussrod cover says "custom" and the serial number on the sticker is 14508. I am actually hoping to find an original OEM neck for it, so hit me up if you have a black one. Any help you guys can offer would be appreciated. I have pictures but don't know how to post them.

Yours is a 2242 Black Rock / Super Rock model. See the index of models listing below.

The serial number on the silver foil tags is useless to date any model that has one. The after 1977 date is correct with the wave headstock and these models were in the catalogs up until the 1981 version. Sometimes one might find a date stamp inside the neck pocket, or a SLM set up sticker that might be on a control cover. There is also some rumors I have heard on the internet about original pick up dating from serial numbers that may be stamped on them.

Keep your eyes open in Ebay or Craig's List for an original neck. They come up once in a while by the guys that part out guitars. There are also vintage Japanese guitar pages on Facebook that may help you in a search for a neck if nobody here has one for sale.

I saw the 2242 Black Rock/Super Rock model but was deterred because of the truss rod tag. What does "custom" on the tag mean? I really appreciate your help. I love a challenge, so I'm having fun. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Don't have an exact answer but I'd guess it's like a Les Paul custom or similar.
