I just bought this bass and I was wondering if anyone knows what brand of pick-ups came with the bass and what the switch next to the volume control is for?

They were MMK pickups, made in-house by Matsumoku. I can't speak for the bass pickups but the MMK guitar pickups are among the best made by anyone- they're frequently mistaken for Dimarzios. I'll let the bass players comment further.

I have two APII basses with MMK pickups (two differnt types). They are among the best bass pickups that I have ever played. I know that in my area, New York City, Uncle Matt basses established a good reputation much more than guitars. Although the lesser reputation for guitars was not deserved, the good one for basses is. They kick the @ss of any fend*r gibs*n, music m@n or gui!d I have ever touched.

If you have a doubdle coil pickup it is most likely a coil tap. I find mine less usefull on bass than guitar but that may just be me. I have used it when recording to help prevent distortion when going direct.

The X650 has a P/J style setup with a split coil in the neck pos. and a single coil in the bridge pos.

I don't know the X650 firsthand, so I'm not certain it's wired like a standard precision/jazz bass (pretty good bet though). If so, here's a wiring diagram:

But... some X650's had active electronics, a preamp and a battery compartment. Is yours one of those?

Hi. Thanks for your response. Mine is not an active model but it does have a pick up selector switch. It also has the PJ setup for the pickups.
