I wanted to ask you guys if any of you know where to find some new notched out speed knobs like those used on the models with push pull pots.

I have a few. You can also look (like on ebay) for 'Ibanez style' speed knobs. If that doesn't work PM me and I'll send you some. They're close, slightly different to the touch but outwardly they look the same.

The really rare knobs are the later Westone 'inverted tapered' black knobs, which came in a couple forms, metal or plastic, with set screws or not; and the earlier brass knurled knobs as on X130s and X140s. I'm always looking for those in case someone runs across any.

Thanks X189, I'll check in to that. I have a set of regular speed knobs I bought for the project. They will work if I dont come across anything.

be SURE theyr'e metric, not american splines. Many people don't realize there's two size splines, and it's hard to even see it side by side. But Gibson knobs are finer, and Allparts knobs are coarser, metric. You want the metric ones, or they'll only fit halfway and the pot shaft tabs will break off if you force them.

Thanks for the tip. I havent tried to put one on yet. Can a standard knob be drilled or reamed with out cracking?

If you want to try it I would go for a reamer or a hand drill. A power drill is likely to melt the plastic. You also would have the problem of not having the the knurls (little ridges).

I just bought a Crate Electra LP style that has the gold notched speed knobs, would this mean that it might be equipped with push/pull pots?

There's a fella on the Westone forums that made a run of the knurled brass ones, and they're very nice indeed but, like you, I'm always on the prowl for the tapered ones' Westone Spares made some a year or so back which I climbed into - put 'em on the X195 actually... and they look GOOD!! I don't think they came in a metal version, though, did they?

Good news, I scored a set of knobs. Now, can some one tell me if the X175 came with knob position indicators? The photos arent that clear. :look:

Are you talking about the pointy 'thumb cutter' type, or the little chrome dots that appeared on the X960 Ultima and X270 Powered EQ models? I've never noticed any knob indicators on a Phoenix personally, but I wasn't really paying attention either!

I'm guessing the pointy thumb cutters  , I get a discount on 6 but if they dont go on it I can buy other stuff I need. I have never seen a clear shot that shows any.
