I've used epoxy to fill large areas. If you're re-painting I'd fill that hole just about to the top and then glue on a strip of veneer. You could mix sawdust (from the guitar - maybe enlarge the hole from the jack to the control cavity) and wood glue and top off the epoxy with that. Epoxy is tough to sand. Wood/sawdust is a lot easier to level out. Either way you need to get a good surface for paint and clearcoat to adhere.

With that large hole I'm thinking I might carve out a few chunks of scrap wood and pack/glue it in to fill as much as possible, then you get to drill a nice new hole to surface mount the jack.

After taking time to re-evaluate the whole project again tonight, we came to basically the same conclusion. I think we are going to cut a plug of wood the approximate size and shape including depth of that hole. Then fill around with epoxy mixed with sawdust, sand and then recut the hole for the jack. Also decided to go back to as near an original bridge as possible so we don't end up cutting any more holes in the body. Now I just have to find one.

I bought one of these after talking with Corsair. It has 5 slotted holes and one regular so it lines good. drops right in. They make a cheaper one with regular saddles for about 35 bucks(new on line) I bought both for my 175s and they have great tone, Black, matches the Phoenix real close.

The cheaper one can be found on ebay listed as 5-1 bridge I think.Just look for Wilkinson trem bridges 5-1.

I bought one as well. I need to post some new pics. Found the push/pull pots and I'm about to start wiring it.
