I was curious about the "color" switches in my x210 so I open it and it finally just cut bass. it is a cap in serie with the pick up the cap value are 50V .005uF poliester for bridge and neck.

I was a bit worried about the bridge pick up. it sounded vintage but not good for rock or metal. sometimes different values of pots change the sound of the pick up so I take a look at the volume pot. it is a 500k but have a 33k resistor between the center leg and ground. I did a simulation in LTSpice to know it`s effect on the circuit. (pick up parameters are from a seymour duncan SH4 but it is a good aproximation)

the green line is the frequency response of the stock circuit with the 33k resistor, the red is the frequency response of the circuit without the 33k resistor.

I cut the resistor and now the sound is perfect for me, good highs, more definition, more gain, the whole sound is more open. it is more notorius in the brigde position.

the bad part of the history is that now the pot have more noise and sometime it do some weird things. well it is a 30 years old pot... also the bridge pick up now squeal when the guitar is near the amp and at metal gain level.

someone have an history about this 33k resistor in the volume pot? I would like to know why they put it, good for jazz maybe?.
if I remember correctly the pick ups are not potted right?

best regards
Rafael

Rafael, you are correct, they will need to be potted. I find the color switches most useful on clean settings (without overdrive). I LOVE the Omega's, their necks and feel are just outstanding.

I put a Gibson 500T pickup in the bridge position of my Omega, works great under gain, very clear, open and powerful. If you do change pickups, be sure to KEEP the old ones.
