Thought y'all might enjoy this interesting thread care of the MY LP Forum. I haven't tried this technique myself, but it makes good sense in regard to the microphonic response of the pickup cover, often the problem.

This technique may lessen certain pickup 'creaking' or click noises, but it will do little to stop feedback, squealing or howling at loud volumes. If you've waxed a pickup, you can watch the air bubbles rise to the surface for 15, sometimes 25 minutes after pickup immersion in your vat o' wax. The wax is keeping the delicate windings from (microscopically) vibrating which is what causes those unpleasant sounds. If you're playing loud enough (or with a band...) no ones gonna hear a pickup creak! Cheers, Mike.
