Well this one is a prime candidate for restoration. It has no active electronics remaining and plenty of body mojo but overall looks solid. Needs a new life please help. :look: :look:

so this X640 isn't going to be as easy a repair as my first one :)

plus I'm thinking maybe a trans green finish, or maybe a warmer darker natural finish...

the early x640 actually had a spot to mount the EQ board... anybody have one of these later ones and would like to snap some pics of the innards?

$99 before shipping was a pretty nice deal, congrats! The circuit board ends up mounted to the insulator board shown in the 2nd to last picture in the auction on the control cover like these two on my X150 and X250:

The pickup selector switch looks like a lit automotive dashboard switch! It looks like a lot of work, and I wonder how bad that crack on the lower horn is. Have you seen it in person yet? Good luck, Mike.

Leave the Center natural, and stain the 'wings' Walnut like a X150 or X635.... mmm, that would be tasty.

the grain is probably straight enough in the middle that I could pull that off...will have to see what it looks like when it gets here...

been watching video again of some burst finishing... green burst and blue burst... so we'll see.... 8)

Bothburst! Trans green middle, blue around the edge!

You know, at first I was joking, but that could actually be cool!

I could do like the Raider and have a yellow middle, blue edges, and the blend would be green......

wow this thing is light... seems tons lighter thant the older x640 I had... neck feels skinnier too, more like a Jazz neck... action on this thing is ridiculously good 'n low...
the wear spots on the wood are really wear spots in the wood... the kind that leave the big grooves in the wood between the grain...
the body crack had been glued previously and is nice and solid...
this one has been played lots!

it has super light strings on it which feel a little weird...

I finally got around to pulling this apart, and got a good bit of sanding completed on it.

the small switches in it are new ones, and have never been hooked up. looks like a previous owner just put them in to fill the holes. same with the automotive toggle switch...

I'm gonna wire it back up like stock, except for the Active EQ stuff, unless I try and fit a diff EQ board in there...
and it looks like the original neck pup (p-style) has been replaced... I need to compare it to the older 640 harness I have...

so I've been checking out the 12 pin monster thread...
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=5334

and looking at the spare harness I had from a x640 that had the EQ board removed... but what I've determined is in my harness, is both sets of P-style pups, the 12 pin, the phase switch, and the pup selector. also has the vol and tone pots with jack...

trying to figure out exactly what the 12 pin is doing.... the pups are both wired directly to it, so it looks like it's doing the series/parallel function...

wish I would have taken closer pics of the full active harness before the swap....

I'm gonna try one of these...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Artec-EX3-Guita ... 2315214491

but modify it so it fits in the cavity and maybe do a rotary on/off so the holes will all be filled... will be somewhat close to original functionality.

this bass has the original J-style bridge pup, so I'm going to put it into the double-P harness and then just use the leftover P pup for the Concord bass project...
