I just got back a guitar from an old friend after 20+years. It was my first guitar and I'm stoked to have it back. Problem is that the bridge pup only works when the toggle is in the "combo" position. Any idea what I'll have to replace, or take apart and fix in order to fix it?

I actually bought a phoenix years ago while I was in the army in an attempt to replace the x260....nowhere near that fret action. I have that phoenix, a hondo shaped like a shark, the X260, and a piece of junk strat....the x260 SOUNDED the best, and still has the best fret action and feel. How do I get that sound back?

thanks,
Dave

Hello DC, welcome to the forum, does the guitar sound any different when in the 'Both' position than the neck position? It should sound a bit brighter, and with that twin pickup 'boink' caused by frequency cancellation of the two pickups. You can also tap on the different pickups to verify that they're both working. It is conceivable that only the neck pickup is functioning, which would allow the guitar to make sound in the neck and both positions.

If the Bridge pickup is in fact still working, but not in the bridge only position, I would have to say that the selector switch itself is defective, which is a pretty straightforward replacement. You may want to make notes on the wires before de-soldering to make certain you reconnect them correctly.

I'm surprised you got it back after 2 decades, that's a good buddy you have there! Tell us how things go, Mike.

Thanks. It definately sounds different and passes the tap test....so it works, just not independently of the neck pickup. I can also tell the difference when i hit the split toggle or whatever it is. don't get me wrong, this thing is definately a project. My friend took it and decided to strip it of it's lacquer and also must have busted the headstock at some point because part of it's been sawed off.....but darn if it still doesn't play sweet. Once I get it working I'm going to strip everything off of it, sand the hell out of it and re-stain it. We'll see how it looks when I'm done with it. The bummer is that it doesn't say Electra a the top any more, but the serial number is still on the back. What kind of pickups did they use in these? I remember is sounding really hot.
