I have all the hardware coming,found a NOS mmk45 with the plastic still on it and an mmk53 with the gold pole pieces for $20 for the set
Yeah,I know,it's not the paf type pickup sound you should expect but they are temporary until I can find originals.
Does anyone have original pickup rings? Need desparately -really don't want to add any more holes than possible.

Here it is-not original,but will suffice for now. I haven't gotten any replies for original parts will try to swap in originals as I find them

It does have a couple of good chips,stress crack in the clearcoat at neck pocket corner,but overall better than average for age.
This is one nasty goldtop with the mmks

Looks like ir just rolled out from Uncle Matts factory. Great job. I bet she has a vicious growl and plenty of volume and power with that body and those pups. Would be cool to have a sound clip of this Axe. Great job

Probably not an uncle matt guitar (Kasuga or Terada?) and probably didn't have MMKs (probably had Maxxons). Somebody correct me if I am wrong. But still, nothing wrong with any of that! I believe one of those companies is the one making the Japanese Gretsch guitars - and they are FANTASTIC and very expensive.

You did what appears to be a very a nice restoration. It looks great! I bet it kicks too with those MMKs. Most of those MMKs are pretty hot - at least the ones I had were.

Those pickups look great Ozark! I had them for almost a year but never got to hear them, would love to know how they sound and if you're happy with them. Cheers, Mike.

Thanks Mike,they sound great in this guitar-much warmer and more bluesy than the mmks-they were a little too hot for this-kinda Johnny Winter on 'roids hot I swapped the chrome cover on the neck for a gold one,almost had a heart attack pulling the old cover off-no solder,just some adhesive holding it on but felt like something was pulling,turned out it was just a little adhesive that still had some elasticity after 35 years! I steel wooled the bridge pickup housing,had a brass nut installed and the frets leveled,original 22XX series tuners but they are chrome. It has new bridge,stop piece,posts,pickguard,pointers,3 way and poker chip,all original pots,caps,wiring. Plays great,sounds better
One interesting thing-apparently a previous owner was so mortified by the made in japan neckplate,he miserably attempted to scratch it off. Must have sounded good enough to still play..... Joe

The goldtop is sold - mortarman is the new owner,it will be rejoined with the 935 blackburst it used to share the rack with. Nice to see it stay in the group,I might have to get that one back in the future Thanks Joe

Hey,
sorry, I know this post is a bit old, but ozark, do you happen to remember if the bracket for the pickguard on the goldtop was a standard Gibson bracket? Did the screw threads go in okay?

The Gibson style brackets seem to line-up,no problems....by the way,welcome to the forum-lotsa great info here and good folks.
