I think my pot is shot. Felt like gravel and then seized up altogether. Cant really get any rotation at all. Will any 150K pot do or should I narrow my search for a particular type? I've done a little research on pots and repairs on youtube. I may be able to do surgery on this one. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

FYI -

I had the same problem on my X340 MPC years ago;

This was before I knew about Caig DeOxit - so after I took the back controls cover off the back of the guitar -

I grabbed a can of the old standby - WD40 -

and gave it several liberal shots in the little vents on the pot - let it set overnight - and the next day it was working fine;

Cleared up the gravel feel and the static - I have used Caig DeOvit on it since - and have no further issues.

+1 on the DeOxit. It is the best stuff around for scratchy pots. A little spendy, but WELL worth it!

I love DeOxit

I used it on all my stuff back in the day. Need to get more.
I always used that and a can of compressed air. I would shoot it
up with DeOxit and work it out..let it set over night. It'll work all that
crud into little balls of dirt like substance. So then I would take the compressed
air and gently blow controlled burst into the pot while working it.

Usually 99% of the time it made it a million bucks again.

My dad used to repair them. But out of all the things I watched him fix
my dumb butt never watched him do that.

I agree with previous posts recommending Caig deoxit. If you're buying, consider getting the dropper bottle instead of the spray. Less wasted product=better value.

Try to rejuvenate the original pots, as they're an odd value and metric bushing. So it may be difficult to find a proper exact replacement. They'll probably clean up just fine.
