Guys, I know this may be a dumb question, but how do you remove the knob on the five-way switch on a MPC?

I got my X330 today and need to remove the knob to tighten the hold down nut. I thought it might take an Allen key since there is a hole in the knob, but it looks like no screw or hex head inside. Is there supposed to be a hex head that could be stripped out?

Thanks.

There should be a screw. I don't recall if its a flat head or allen but my recollection is there ought to be something. I'm looking at my outlaw right now and that's got a hex in it.

Thanks again for checking for me.

I got the knob off, just had to find the right size hex key (5/64'' is the one for future reference), only to discover someone cranked the nut on the switch so tightly that the wood body caved in slightly causing cracking to the finish...ugh! Some people just have no idea when it comes to taking care of an instrument. I guess I will need to reinforce the plastic dial ring with some stiffer backing material and maybe some felt.

That is unfortunatly a common problem with the 5 way switches. People often tighten them dow and cause cracks due to the thin layers of woods at the switch point. It will help if you do use a heavier ring material to reenforce the spot. My X330 has the same problem from it's previous owner.

Do you think there's enough room on the shaft of the switch to get a big washer either in the cavity or under the indicator ring? I'm thinking one of those nylon washers would be good.

It is a very tight fit but the nylon is flexable enough and will work. You may need to trim it a little but it worked for mine as I had the same type finish crack on my X330. I put a smaller one on the top side and the larger inside on top of the 5 way switch shaft and that seemed to work OK with the old Black 1-5 position switch on top. It is a tight fit so do not force it just trim it until it fits.

I am looking for a 5 way switch and the cream colored backing. Any ideas on where to find one for my sunburst 330?
Thanks
