I have a beautiful sunburst Electra Avenger 2275S with the rosewood fretboard and the large 'Fender' headstock.
I just bought this gem used a week ago. It had a nut that was broken on one end. I carefully scored the remaining nut and it came off quite easily. Then I carefully sanded off remaining glue for a new nut. I went to local major guitar store and bought a variety of Tusq and bone Fender Strat 'replacement' nuts, you know, they are marked "for strat type guitars". I also bought some for Gibson styles for other future repairs.
Here is the rub mates, none fit. They all hang off both ends quite will. My measurement of the nut area was
1-5/8" wide. I don't feel like I'm skilled enough to make my own nut at this point. I guess I had hoped I could buy a off the shelf store replacement nut, but it is not looking that way. Even checked Allparts. Thoughts ??

Take a look at Tusq's web site. If the length and string spacing are right you can always sand the bottom down if it is too high.

I think I have a tusq 1-5/8 lying around that I bought for my 2259 rebuild. As I recall the nut width itself was fine but the string spacing was atrocious - really close to the edge of the fretboard on both E's. I never did find one that worked stock so I had a bone nut made for that guitar. (About $40 IIRC). I believe most store bought nuts are poorly executed anyway. Materials are usually good but the slots in general seem to be cut much deeper than they need to be. Perhaps you can find a good size blank and use your remaining nut as a template to mark the string spacing. From that point you should be able to file or saw in the slots. I know of people who score the slots with a dremel cut off wheel just as a starter and then set the proper depth by using a correct gauge string in the slot and sawing the string back and forth to create a nice curved slot to the right depth.
