Just picked up a dynasty as a project for a ridiculously small price, of course Ive never owned an electra before opnly think I ever see in the pawns is the strat copy, and its never done anything for me.

From what I can see if it looks like it may have been a XV2RD, but for one major thing.

This one is in a "textured gun metal gray" finish. Guy who I got it from said he bought it that way.

The thing that makes me think its the XV2RD is it is a thin waisted V, but has the "tips" on the end of the V like the XV2RD.

I hope to post a few pix in a bit, but a few questions:
1) did E/W ever make one of these in a greay textured finish?
2) from what I have seen so far the 2 divverences between the XV2RD and the other V is the color and the tip. - were there any other differences?
3) is the wiring the same in all their waisted V's?
4) Is there some place on the net that shows the original wiring? From what Ive found these apparently were wired really well with a lot of good tone combinations, and I donbt imagine SD has this on their site.
5) The bridge hummer looks like it was replaced somewhere along the wal (flat matte black cover), were these pups anything special, or would I be better off, putting in my own favorites?

Thanks for any and all ideas

J

OK, got the camera working, not sure what the photo restrictions are, so I'll link from PB

Heres the dynasty, sorry iots dark, this is the only turned out that way:

Image

Now if you can see here there were some mods done

Image

The volume knob has been swapped out, as has the bridge pup, oh and look at those PC screws holding in the neck pickup, wow havent seen that since a 12 yo tried to swappups.

I would like to say that it plays great, bit the action is a little low, but actually its so low EVERYTHING scrapes against the frets (culprit WAS found though!). And I believe in my 1st post I forgot to mention that not only was it textured but spakly TOO! And riding in the car home, it got a little warm so it almost reinforces this was a rattlecan refin, but pease someone correct me

The input jack is shot, I had to hold the cord in to get it to quit squeling, but thats ok because the 3 way is more liuke an infinite position switch, its SOO floppy theres no stops at all. I do like the trim waist, but does anyone know what the "tips" at the ends of the V were called?

Image

now we have the front of the HS which if you look at the decal almost conches the refin idea, it definately looks like it was covered then painted then....

Image

The BACK of the headstock seems to indicate we may have had a broken neck aty one time. It looks as though it may not have broken all the way through, as the repair looks good, but trhe finish on the split repair is really bad...

Image

here's the back end and if you look real close in the bottem left of the cover you can see why the strings are so bad. apparently someone didnt know how to change strings on a floating brodge and decided to lock the bridge down WITH A TWO INCH SHEET METAK SCREW

on the one hand I almost dont want to refin the body, just because its a lot of work, but if its is a RED a nice solid color repaint would be good to teach my son on.

so anyone who can fill me in it would be appreciated.

thanks

The thing that makes me think its the XV2RD is it is a thin waisted V, but has the "tips" on the end of the V like the XV2RD. You have a poorly painted 1983 Dynasty, it's either Red, White, or Black under there. And I almost GUARANTEE that the original paint is still there, it's super thick and tough as nails, so most people wouldn't have sanded it off.

I hope to post a few pix in a bit, but a few questions:
1) did E/W ever make one of these in a grey textured finish? The only ones with "fangs" on the ends were the Westone years.
2) from what I have seen so far the 2 divverences between the XV2RD and the other V is the color and the tip. - were there any other differences? Shapes were different beyond the points, google them both and you'll see. You have the later Westone model.
3) is the wiring the same in all their waisted V's? Check this out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNGzgokNA4o Then check out this video, it's the Westone Dimension IV (same wiring as the Westone Dynasty) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSG8_gUMLfI THIS is how your's was configured when stock.
4) Is there some place on the net that shows the original wiring? From what Ive found these apparently were wired really well with a lot of good tone combinations, and I donbt imagine SD has this on their site. We can help with that, no problem. Click here... http://www.westoneguitars.net/fixme/wiring-diagrams/dynasty/
5) The bridge hummer looks like it was replaced somewhere along the wal (flat matte black cover), were these pups anything special, or would I be better off, putting in my own favorites? The pickups were MMK45's, a favorite pickup for a lot of folks. Great for rock, sound great clean, overall a great pickup. What style of music do you play? If it's heavy music, don't go with the original pups. Use your favorites. If the bridge pup was changed, the original owner probably liked heavy music and the original probably squealled with all that gain, so he replaced it.

And congrats on the guitar, I have a red Dynasty and love it. One of my favorite guitars! We'll help you get her back to snuff.

Thanks for any and all ideas

J

Nice score but is absolutely not original finish. Acetone and a soft cloth will do wonders to clean off that finish and just a little polish will bring out the original finish great as stated the original finish on these is super tough and hard to remove for certain.Headstock and neck should be black and clean up nice also as it only looks like overspray from a can. Welcome and good luck. You will find this to be a great player for certain and there are plenty of references to pickups. schematics etc here in the forums.

Welcome to the forum. Your Dynasty was made in November 1983. It seems as if most of these Dynasty's are red in color (including mine). I hope yours was originally a different color so we can see it restored. I hope you try to strip off the speckled finish and I hope the original finish is just beneath it.

OH trust me that spakle is going

if this were just a wall hanger thats one thing, but so far it looks like this could have been a pretty premium guitar in decent shape,

it shall be again, just may take a while...

its either #9 or 11 on my project list, depending on how i count them,,,
