If it's a faded V, they sold for $699 new.

Well drove up to the pawn shop where the Gibson V was located on January 14. It was a little farther away than I thought, but I had some business to take care of in the area anyway. Man, let me tell you, the pawn shop experience is nothing as depicted on cable TV. I walked in to see four employees behind the counter, two of whom were helping the only other customer. The other two were engaged in some form of horseplay, so I walked over to where a pitiful group of misfit guitars were hanging as they are in just about every pawn shop in America these days. The V was nowhere to be seen, but I figured they would likely have it stashed in a back room someplace since the presence of an actual American guitar would make the raggedy bunch on the wall seem even more alien. After killing another 15 minutes or more waiting to be acknowledged, I finally decided to interrupt the game of who can ignore the customer the longest by asking for assistance. Now that two of the four were at least looking in my direction, I proceeded to describe the Gibson guitar I was seeking as having an unmistakable V shaped body. After much deliberation, and practically enough time to play one side of a Pink Floyd LP, it was determined that the guitar was placed on layaway by someone the day before. I asked if would be a problem to have a look at it just to verify what I missed and was met by more long gazes which I assume meant no, so I walked out. I figure this store must be trying to get their own show which could appropriately be titled - Pawn Zombies.

Personally, even if they were giving away free 1958 Les Paul guitars to every customer, I would not set foot inside this operation again.

Well, '58 LPs notwithstanding, allow me to suggest that you're simply not in the right frame of mind to play the pawn shop game.

It's actually pretty amusing, once you dial in to the vibe. I've done some good deals in pawn shops. Don't forget that an Electra in a pawn shop is likely to not get much attention. If you DO find one, you're probably one of the few people walking in the door that has legitimate interest in it.

Oh, I love to play the pawn shop game just fine alright, only you cannot play by yourself too well. This particular pawn shop just did not seem interested in the customer that's all.
