Later one with set neck and peace logo....what's that beneath the logo? Looks like a Canadian leaf there.....I like the "old style" flower pot much better.

Average price for these seems to be around 700. I haven't seen one with these pups before. Changed TRC and machines, but looks pretty good.

JD ...Thats a never before seen headstock...its not a "openbook" very, very strange indeed. The headstock shape is like the early "Lotus" brand..also the scarf joint on the back of the headstock is very "un electra" like (but smilar to a couple of other guitars in my collection like the Vulcan) ...very similar to some of the early Memphis cheap builds. Quite frankly this guitar is very puzzling to me.....I gut tells me that this guitar was sourced from a different factory as the couple of examples of this guitar I have had the pleasure of handling-this senario makes sense as in late '76, many of the Japanes importers struggled to keep up with demand and contracted with several different factories for spot runs (Memphis is a great example-their '76 guitars are completely different (in a good way) to every other year of production....These high end guitars require a different manufacturing process than the bent ply laminated top clones .

JD....$700 ? I think thats just a little wishful thinking...I have sold two of these in the past year-both were bolt necks with regular humbuckers and open book headstock and one sold for $1,100 and the other for $950....this is a very RARE guitar and its SOLID MAPLE.....this one is unusual in that the headstock (I have never seen that shape on an Electra) and mini-buckers points to some sort of short run/prototype-it seems to be in very good shape with no permanent mods...I think the seller will get his $1,000 with out much effort......

 This one is curious to say the least. Most I have seen are bolt on neck with the occasional set neck. I have never come across this type headstock or logo arrangement before in any of my searches. Also this one has the less seen P 90 style small humbuckers as well. The tuners are upgrades and I agree that the headstock and the leaf logo are dead on for an early Lotus guitar. maybe they just added the Electra logo to an already existing Lotus neck blank. Who knows on this one.Would be interesting to see this one in person but that is more than I care to bite off for now. I really like the super magnums and this one is unique to say the least and will remain in the back of my mind as I am curious about it. JD yours are very nice also but they seem to be more of the standard models I see most of the time. The price is questionable and to much for me but maybe due to it's uniqueness he will get that price or close. Will be interesting to watch this one. JD are your magnums set neck or bolt neck? they are nice reguardless. I have played the set neck electra models as well as the bolt neck models and both play and sound great so would be interesting to compare this set neck magnum to it's bolt neck brother. Wow this one is a beauty for certain. I would think it would have had maybe a pinapple truss rod cover from the looks of where the screw hole on top is or maybe the standard custom cover. Any ideas? 8) 8)

I have a set neck version with a open book headstock..it has a white TR cover with the word "Custom" engraved in it. the headstock inlay is the same as the one on auction, but without that weird maple leaf thinamagig.....I also own a Magnum-its a similar solid maple guitar but without the carving and TOL neck....my Magnum has those same mini-humbuckers...I guess they are a copy of the Gibson "Deluxe" Lp's of the mid 70's...

Arthur, mine is a bolt.

Dave....I arrived at the 700 as an average of those I know of that have sold over the past few years. If I factor your sales in also...that amount goes up to 807.00. And, yes...I'll agree that this one is indeed a rare bird. Whether that's good or not, I don't know. It is a set neck though, and that's a BIG plus for these guitars.

I wouldn't mind adding it to the old collection. I wonder.

Beware the EGAS is in the air again. These beauties have been known to cause EGAS outbreaks, but what a way to go. Makes the Beans and water diet almost worth it. We gotta find a way to fuel or EGAS without breaking the bank. This one is very nice indeed. The burgandy pro you scored also looks great. I need this one and a Maple Pro, oops thats my Egas getting reved up again. Love these Electras.  8)

Guitar arrived today. It's even better than expected......

Oh, Dave. I just ran across an old quote of yours on the net (discussing Electras):

"I agree that the "Open Book" style is the most desireable-but NO WAY are they worth anything near a grand-even for the Super Magnum."

My how things change.

PICS: http://cid-9a074e414e221b86.photos.live ... del%202258

The logo word "Electra" and the "peace" logo are decals. The maple leaf is inlaid. The headstock shape, I thought, resembled a 70's Crestline.....but the lower shoulders of the headstock didn't match up. However....everything shape wise on the headstock silhouette matches the '76 Cimar LP design.

I'm gonna add a couple comparison pics later on that are interesting.

I'm leaning toward Dave's speculation that this may have been a prototype. Limited run, I don't think so right yet. What are your thoughts?

I wondered if that were the case... they looked to have the same fading issues the decals had on the later basses...

My guess is that SLM needed a few more for something, and had a batch made at another factory... the "transitional" Corsair bass looks to be in the same category. it a was a bolt/set neck with features of both, and was Kasuga made.... I've only seen a couple...
