Too bad the shipping is $50 on this one. Would make a fun project, or also just great for spare parts. With cleaning the neck, bridge, tuners and knobs would look great, and they are all original of course. $50 starting bid with no bids and a day left. Too bad its not local, i'd pay 50 bucks anyday for her.

This was originally black it looks like. I think I'm in on this one. Thanks for the post.

Well, I bought this......it was around $136 - not too high and not too cheap, but cheap enough. I hope the pickups are original, it looks like someone painted the original covers and "modded" them, but who knows. I've wanted to paint a guitar with duplicolor ocean blue for awhile, and since this already non-original, this is the candidate. Some electronics, a pickguard, paint, and elbow grease and this should turn out okay. For an example of the color, see the link below:

Congrats (I hope...) Sandspur. Doing some forensics, it seems to be a X140 (s/s/s hardtail), made in April of 1981.

The seller describes it as 'heavy', which positively ID's it as one of the 'deluxe' versions with a Maple Body, also it still has the deluxe sealed nickel tuners (which are nice). It would have been either Opaque White, Blue or Red originally. The Ash versions are lighter, and usually have a see-through finish showing off the grain.

Don't know what to tell you about the pickups, they look like the covers have been painted, and typically if the pole pieces are exposed, they will stick out through those holes... and these don't, so maybe they are original. I've never been a big fan of single coils, so I don't own any to compare them to.

If the action is high, someone probably lost the neck shim that was once in there when they painted it, so get ready to experiment with that. I own two phoenix's with that style bridge, and the strings kind of 'hook' underneath the bridge, they don't thread through the body of the guitar. Weird, but serviceable.

Again, I don't own one, but I believe they only had a three way swich (neck/bridge) and then the micro switch turned on the Middle pickup if desired, more versatile than a strat in some ways. Good Luck my friend, and do show us your progress! Mike.

Thanks Pro. Most of this I had gathered but I wasn't aware of the "deluxe" version. The pictures show black or what looks like black underneath the orange and mustard colors. Could this have been black originally or does it have that many repaints on it? Either way, it's wood and can be fixed. I noticed the bridge and it looks like it will work. The neck shim shouldn't be a problem. You were thinking along the same lines as me about the pickups. I could always change them if they aren't original but would like to keep them that way. I will show the progress as it goes. I have this one to show along with the other I purchased a while back. I haven't made a ton of progress on that one so I will document that as well.

Found another x140 "custom" with a maple body in black. I don't know if this is the original color or not.

The original index of models said black was an option on the custom models as well:

I stand corrected. The one on Gear Orphan looks straight, just as a reference point, you can see that the pickguard is multi-layered also. It'll look great in blue, can't wait!

Pro, I wasn't trying to correct you there, just trying to figure out what the original color is. I guess I'll know more when I get it. I have, however, found differences from the old index to the new several times. I'm not sure which is right but I guess we'll know soon. Thanks for all of your comments as they are very helpful.

I did bookmark that gear orphan page as a reference. It looks like I'm going to need a tracing for the pickguard.
