I would assume that the set neck Corsairs are sought after, but I would warn bidders to communicate with this seller before getting too starry eyed... If you look at the picture of the neck staring down at the body it looks like the neck has twisted like 20 degrees. I sent the seller a message asking about it, and he has yet to reply... let the buyer BEWARE!!!

it's actually probably not an Electra, as there was never a black version, but without identification, it's truly hard to say what it was. He had one of my other Electras, and of all the neck through "R" copies out there, the neck through ones were all pretty much the same...

I was trying to get it, but have been outbid...

The Corsair auction has been pulled (not to be confused with ended early...). Maybe he used the 'R' word in it somewhere? Curious.

no, it was pulled because of the pictures... since they trademarked the design of the body, headstock, trc, tailpiece, etc.... and you can't use any of their "designs" to help sell anything.

When I sold mine, I put all the images into 1, and hosted it myself, not on the eBay server... and I put a buy it now on, and as soon as someone gabbed the buy it now, I switched out the image.... :)

Quite possibly the dumbest thing I have read in months. :( Copyright law is so backwards.

Well, I guess I'll skip out on ever buying a real Rick then.

It is not the copyright law, or tradmark law, that is stupid it is Rick and E-bay. If it was legal for Electra to make them (and there never was a Rick lawsuit to stop it) it is legal to use images to sell them. Also Richenbacher has a trademark on their name, not on Rick R*ck or any of the other euphamisms. It is also legal to use the name Richenbacher as long as it does not proport to be one (e.g., "Richenbacher style"). The problem is that Rick has a law firm that sends nasty letters out for anything they can think of. E-Bay, rather than defend their customers rights, yanks any disputed listing.

And Rick being stupid about copies is why I'll avoid ever buying a real Rick.

there was no lawsuit, but I'd bet there were threats of one.....
I'd say the rick copy period only lasted from '74-'77 because of it.

trademark law does not prohibit anyone fro making a copy, it just prohibits use of the trademarked items in commerce. and with Trademark law, you have to make every attempt to enforce the rules, or you risk losing the trademarks.

If fender had taken this roue, you wouldn't have any more fender copies being made....

the guitar body maker Eden. for about a week, had some unfinished RIC body copies a couple of years ago on ebay and then they were gone...

It's their design and they don't want anyone else using it... I don't fault them for that... it's unfortunate that it affects the sales of vintage copies, but it has to because of how the laws are written.

Everyone knows that Ricks are the originals and supposedly the highest quality. Copies do not hurt their business in any way. They are just pricks.

If you copyright a design, it is only actionable if the copy is very close, change a beveled edge shape an inlay diffently differently, use diffent colors or materials and the copyright does not hold.

You can not tradmark a complex design. You can trademark a name, a logo or a design element like the headstock shape. A trademark will alow you to go after those who are close but not exact in design but does not cover the entire guitar.

A patent is the best protection for an original design. Rick could not use that protection as ther was nothing that met the criteria for a patent about there entire guitar even if they patented parts.

BTW one of the reasons Fender did not go after copies is that they did not have a unique design element like Gibsons headstock to tradmark. The headstock shape they use has been in use since at least the 1880's on German and Austrian guitars and was used on some early Martins.

Well I guess the legal types gotta make a living one way or another. It just seems that you know who is a bit overzelous with the whole copy thing to me. If it were me and I had the best quality I would not worry about it because I would know that quality and a fair price will win out most of the time. :bawl:

:D I'll let you know if it's a bad twist or just because of how the fb is separating... 8)

Sounds like somebody's got a new toy in-bound! Tell us what kind of shape it's in when you see it up close. Oh, and it looked like there was like blue foam holding the bridge pickup, or something... Good luck!
