Whoever did this turned a $1,000 collectable into something that may fetch around $300-$400 when complete.

Who knows, maybe I'll put in a bid if it stays under $50.

Doing that kind of defeats the purpose of even being an MPC in the first place.

Loving the effect of that top.
You guys think it'd be possible to re-rout it for MPC again?

   What a horrible end to a fine instrument. It will take alot of work and dedication as well as craftsmanship to bring this one back from the dead zone. :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:

Well, we have seen worse. Maybe it will find its way to an Electra fan.

It's closer to being playable than Workingmans 'Hulk' project, but something is up on the top... I can't recall ever seeing an electra with that kind of maple flame, and I'm wondering if it's Painted on or something? Seller curiously doesn't supply any good close ups of the top, I would request close ups if I were bidding on it.

There are a bunch of guitars out there with the standard 2 volume 2 tone setups, it is always a mystery to me why people are so quick to carve up one of these MPC's, if you don't like it, trade it for something more mainstream (read as less versatile).

Yes Robot Dr, it looks good enough to tackle. A good router and a sharp chesil will clean it back up. I agree with Pro on the top, I never saw one like that. But hey, a set neck with all the OEM tuners still intact, that was filled and not hogged is something that dont come up to often, if ever.

It says it was "Striped and Stained" to look like a flame top so I wonder what it would take to make it look "Normal" again. Good job with the sunburst finish though, hard for an amateur to pull that off. Why anyone would prefer this over the original cherry sunburst is beyond me though! :-?

I was just thinking that it may be a good candidate (since its already hacked) to integrate some modern modeling circuitry (say, from a DigiTech RP-50?) into this thing? That is my vision of how an Electra would be set up today if the brand were still in business!

I don't think the seller says what model (finish) this originally was, maybe it was the plainer Black or Red version, I continue to wonder if the flame is brushed on... and I'm still trying to figure out that double 'comet' thing going on over the Bridge?

I think that you could find a gutted MPC (that hasn't been filled!) if you wanted to try out putting a modern effect into one, which I agree would be cool, although I have a digitech RP300, that I think is pretty noisy unfortunately. They have a TON of stuff built into them (pitch transposing, envelop filter, etc. etc.), but it adds noticeable hiss, especially if you're using a high gain amp. I kinda wish I had tried that Alesis that Paul sent to ElectraFest now, RCS says it's versatile, and I don't think it had a ton of controls on it. I'm sure you'll show us if you shoehorn one in there someday!

My immediate plan would be just to make it a player, with the possibilty of restoring the MPC maybe in the distant future. To many other projects on the table right now to go that far with this bad boy.

I think it would idea to go for a player first. The routing and drilling for the mpc is more complicated then it looks, particularly with the arched top. Is it possible the top is a veneer? They come very thin. That is my current plan for the hulk.
