This has turned out to be a really nice guitar - probably the best pair of mmk45's I have and the finish is really well done too. Even though I'm pretty much a stickler for "all original", it turns out I really like the burst finish and won't change it. The only 3 slight drawbacks are the knobs (2 are new style and 1 is the ridged type), and like the x210 I got recently it has no logo - I may have to hit up mcbrat for logo's after all. Anyway, after just a little minor tweaking, this guitar plays and intonates really well. The 3rd draw back is a nitpick with the design. I like have the coil tap but wish I could split one pickup and full HB another. As it is it's all tap or all HB. Nit picking. Still sounds great.

Since it is not original you could always add a push/pull pot and re-wire it so you could split the pups individually. it wouldn't show.

Show us some closeups of the Flame top man, I'm surprised it didn't get sanded OFF because they are so thin. What month was yours made? I think by April 1980 the flame lamination was gone. My FrankInvicta is my new Live axe. Feather light and lots of expression, bring it to the next 'Fest, Mike.

I'll see about getting some pictures up tomorrow. To be honest, after pretty close inspection, I'm really not convinced it's a refinish job - I figure it must be but there are hardly any marks at all and the ones that are through the finish show no sign of walnut stain. There's no serial number so that doesn't help either. I need to change strings so I'll take a real close look in the pickup cavity and see what I can find. I can say the inside of the control cavity and the back of the headstock are interesting to say the least. I'll get pics and you all can see what I'm talking about. Either way, if its a re-finish, its probably the best I've ever seen.

So I tried a little goof off by the s/n and it pretty much melted whatever the finish is. If there is a top clear coat it is extremely thin. I got a slight bit of red on the buff rag using guitar scratch remover. I think I will have to go with this as a refinish but still, I can't for the life of me find a single trace of walnut finish anywhere. I also know how tough it is to strip and sand these things so I can't figure out how that could have been done. I believe the serial numbers are decals - for certain they are not engraved. There's no trace of a logo with either flash photography or magnifying glass. Why that would be sanded off and the s/n left is beyond me. I'm actually not sure what to make of this. What do you folks think??

I remember seeing this one on CraigsList not too long ago, I want to say it was in the midwest, Indiana? Maybe Illinois. Had to list it a number of times. The seller was pretty proud of the refin, saying that he used quality materials. You may want to ask the most recent seller when he got it and if he recalls that story. Too bad about the logo, but what are you gonna do?

May of 1980 huh... well that's got to be one of the last of the flame tops. It looks like it may have been rewired with all those braided leads there. Almost every Electra I've been inside has had single insulated leads running between the switches, pickups, etc. Looks cool, enjoy!

The seller was from Pickerington, OH. I figure it must have been re-wired too. Happily, it was also done correctly and very well. The pickups measure 11.37 bridge and 10.40 neck. There's no evidence of real deep gouges or repairs so I guess the refinish was done as a purely cosmetic issue. I really am a fan of walnut finish but I find that this one is growing on me. I like it and it actually looks a lot better in person than the flash photos show. For the price I paid, I can live without a logo. The Invicta series is just flat out sweet and this ones a winner. A retrofit mcbrat logo may be in order for this one.

I am thinking this is also a very , very ,nice refinish and I like the color also. It's a keeper for certain and a Logo is in order and will look great on it.

I measured one off my X290 - it's 2-7/16" overall. The EG peace circle is 7/8" and the Electra is 1-7/16"

I think this one is the same and I lifted it from HotAndNasty's X270 picture.
