Player grade original goldtop LP with no case and open book headstock. Will make a good gig guitar or everyday player if you like the gold top look.

I almost bought an identical '72 goldtop out here in Chicago a few weeks ago ($475+ ish) but then I found this forum and read the posts from Tom Presley. After reading his insights I realized these probably aren't a great deal if was to spend more than $300.

He said some are decent, some are junk (i may have over-simplified) and I noticed that the ones with the beige gold paint seem to have nicer fretboard bindings (the one I was looking at had the more pedestrian bindings)...I communicated with the owner of the one out here and they had a luthier recently do lots of fretboard and tuner repair....didn't make me any more confident. I decided I'd rather jump a few model years ahead to when Kasuga figured out all the details than possibly end up with a lemon (or chinese epiphone equivalent).

Some of these "Hoshino" sourced early LPs may be pretty decent, but I think >$300 is a bit steep for price of admission. I wouldn't go higher than 3 without trying it out first!
I saved my $500 and bought a scratched up x935 BB for $300.

If I had stopped there I'd have a stove.....but that's another story. The early ones are worth the money I'm sure, but I doubt it's money better spent than say on a 1979 Super Rock, when Kasuga was definitely making the LPs (and doing it so much better).
