Does anybody know why there are a pair of transformers (chokes, coils) in this wiring harness? Very curious.

interesting.

it looks like they're wired in series to ground with the varitone wiring, so it will add to the cap values. So, depending on what the specs are on the audio transformer, it will create a different type of filter, or just smooth the signal....

that 6-way wiring is way uglier than the MPC 5-way :)

The Gibson style varitone circuit is a passive tone modifier using capacitors alone, or capacitors with inductors, along with resistors in various combinations to make filters with different frequency response.

The two transformer looking things in the auction photos are the inductors, sometimes called chokes or coils. The rotary switch has capacitors which are switched in combination with the inductors to change the tone.

It is important to note the difference between a varitone type circuit and the Electra 5 way switch. The Electra 5 way is simply a pickup switch, and does not use any passive filters. It does provide pickup switching options beyond the normal Gibson type three way toggle, such as series/parallel or pickup coil shunt options.
