Does anyone know if these came stock with brass nuts or were there some that came with plastic? I've seen all sorts of variations on 340's with clear or black pickguards and gold or black knobs. And a few X300 series without brass nuts - just wondering. Thanks in advance.

The older mode that I have with the 2 screws on the MPC cover came with the Brass Nut. I have also seen these models with the plastic nuts.Hope this helps.

It appears to be a plastic nut on the X340 (old style headstock) that is being played with the headphones (must be through the MPC11 Frognose).

The X350 on the left has a brass nut; plastic nut - or brass with a reflection in the sun - on the red X320 on the right.

Mine is a 1977 model with brass nut.

Thanks All - So it appears there is no hard and fast "stock" configuration. Kind of what I figured since so many models have so many variations. I've never seen a plastic nut on a 330 though so who knows.

BTW Tusq has a nut that is a bit high but otherwise fits right. I bit of time sanding the bottom down and you are good to go. it is easier than making your own.

I have a X330 with the plastic nut. It is a wave headstock but and early one. I agree that different models and configurations do exist until the later wave headstock models from Matsumoku.

Years ago I suspected that any MPC that had an SN starting with a '0' did not have any brass hardware, and those SN's with a '1' or higher as the first number had the brass hardware - nut and sustain block - but I am not sure that holds true; I think I have seen some exceptions out there;

My X330 and X340 each have the brass hardware - and each SN starts with '1'.

The lowest SN of the two starts with '11'

I have 2 wave X330's both with brass nuts one starts with s/n 1 the other has no s/n. I bought a standard LP brass nut for my Outlaw some time ago and it fit perfectly. I also just bought a bone nut for the 2259 wreck I got today - that nut will need sanding for height, but w & d should be good. The keystone Gotoh's I bought for the SG have inserts that are too wide so it looks like a little drill activity in my future. That will go into another thread on this restoration.

A reamer is safer than a drill for the tuners. A drill can split the head.

The reamer works very well. You can turn it slowly and apply as little or as much pressure as needed and makes a clean hole.

Too bad I don't have one. I might have a round file that will do the job or I might just get the right size tuners.

+1 on the right size tuners-make the part fit the guitar,not the guitar fit the part grasshopper.....now take the tuner from my hand Sorry,I gotta get out of the sun- 90+ degrees today,cicadas are driving me nutso
