I thought these photos might interest you guys... I have a trio of the Godin Synth Access guitars and use them for when I travel or want to play my Roland GR-20.

They are made in Canada and the US and have a kind of Electra-esque heritage, being bolt-neck Paul-esque guitars with relief on the body, long scale, and five-way switches.

Interestingly, the bodies are bookmatched maple tops with carving, LP-style, on top of a three-piece body of maple in the center and poplar wings.

The white Porsche in the photos is a 1995 aircooled 993. The silver one is a 2004 Boxster S "550 Spyder Edition".

The first-generation LGXes (like the green one) had piezo and hexaphonic pickups by LR Baggs. The second-gen ones (the sunburst and blue) use the RMC hexaphonic pickups. BIG DIFFERENCE. The tracking is just about perfect on the RMCs. Not so much on the Baggs. I also think the acoustic tone from the piezos is better on the new ones.

Ebony fretboard, long scale... The "strat" tones from the split pickup are vaguely convincing, but the authentic "quack" isn't really there.

I actually find them a bit hard to play, between the long scale and the thin neck.

If I had to own just one guitar, it would be the sunburst LGX-SA in the photos. You can do everything with it.

Very cool! The 993 is a great car, last of a breed IMHO, few problems ultimate refinement of the aircooled line.

The Boxster you've got is another awesome car too.

I've got a friend with along scale Ibanez that he's not real fond of either, due to the length and shape of the neck, just like you are experiencing.

Interesting lineup there. I am not familiar with that brand but they look like they have great craftsmanship.

Ebony fretboards rule - I have a faded sg with ebony???? That's a mistake - It's supposed to ne rosewood - but it's not. And yes, I do know the difference. Strings seem to glide on the ebony - probably thr perfect fretboard material - Like a '76 Pinto- perfect in every way!

Jead, yours is not the only SG Faded I've seen with ebony fretboard. Not only did some of the recent SG variants have them, the new "Zoot Suit" SG has an ebony fretboard. Unfortunately my '09 SG Standard has rosewood with the plastic trapezoids.

How do synth guitars compare to a keyboard?? I mean, I have enough trouble with the knobs and switches on a guitar anyway and a guitar synth would have me agog, hence I use an Alesis QS6 for any and all keyboard things... including Hammond B3, Farfisa and Rhodes; and even navigating around the banks in that in the half light onstage - with 2 hands! - has me reeling at times!!

One advantage is that it allows you to use "guitar phrasing". That's also a disadvantage. And you have to play the guitar slightly differently. Jimmy Page would have been striking extra synth tones all over the place. Even using the trem vigorously can trigger synth sounds.

Good Lord!! I will not buy a synth guitar. I will not buy a synth guitar... (Repeat as needed).
