I'll talk with my BIL later this week and see what I can find out. I encouraged him to put it back into service last June. Like I said, he got it new, mainly because Santana endorsed that model at the time. I love it.

One of his boys lost the knob off one of the tuners, and we got a functional replacement. He's playing it all the time now, and loves it. It's in really good original condition. He's never gigged or anything like that, and it's been fairly well taken care of.

Ibanez models with the Cloud tailpiece are fairly common. The Super 80 (flying fingers) pickups less so. Prices can vary wildly on these. The pickups alone on a good day would get at least $200. A set of 4 sure grip I knobs could be close to $100 and the clincher would be the tuners. If they are pearloid velve-tunes, they're probably a minimum of $3-400. I don't recommend parting these guitars out but sometimes, if the body or binding is particularly destroyed, the parts are worth more than the guitar.

What's the model and first few didits of s/n?

Almost all of the late '70's Ibanez electrics are nice. The Artist, Professional, and Musician series are to this day really good guitars - at least the equal of Fender and Gibson for the same era. And lest we forget, Electra was at the top of their game from '77 on too. The big US companies left the door wide open.

F & G are pretty much back now with a vengeance - and some price tags to match, but what has happened to Japanese guitars? Is there something like an Ibanez Custom Shop still building in Japan???

I'm curious why that was so cheap? And my $50 Westone Spectrum GT bass came in a hard case with a 25' cable and strap included.

You got me beat Warrn. I didn't get the case,25' cable or the strap. I guess yours was the better deal.

That's not explaining why it was so cheap!

Warrn is was so cheap because the probably gave the guy $10 for the bass. They just thought it was an old nasty beat to hell ragged out bass. They sold it cheap because they didn't know how to check serial numbers to date it. They just based the price for the bass on what they loaned on it and just tried to get their money back. I lucked out since it knew instantly upon seeing it that it was a vintage bass.

For some reason Warrn, I've been VERY lucky at finding nice basses for great prices at pawnshops. These basses are ALL pawnshop scores.

'09 Hohner B2B ($58), '79 Fender Am. Blk P-B ($180),'79 Fender Am. Butterscotch P-B ($250 w/OHSC),'74 Fender Am. SB J-B ($64.64), '75 SB Ventura J-B ($165), '89 Fender Am.SM J-B ($315 W/OHSC), '88 FP Kramer Striker P-B ($129):

Nice collection. I wish I had pawn shops like that here. All of the ones here are way overpriced on mostly made in china junk. A few do show up now and again but at high retail price even though they don't loan out squat on them.

While we are on a 4-string vibe here I'll ask. Has anyone ever seen a black with white version of the Electra Corsair?

Yes I have seen a corsair in black and white but it was a while back. Was a bolt on neck model.

Thanks for the confirmation Arthur. My wife and I were at an American Legion last night for a fish fry and the band was just getting ready to play when we left.

Didn't get a chance talk to the bassist, but he was strapping on an Electra "Ric". I was not sure as I didn't think they came in black with white trim. I was going to (good-naturedly) accuse him of hiding his Ric behind an Electra badge.
