OK, don't know who knows what, so I'll fill everyone in. I am in this band, The Vickroids. http://www.myspace.com/thevickroids It's pretty much me and whatever drummer and harmonica player I can get at the time.... Real broken blues rock punk kinda stuff.. I build a lot of my own guitars from cigar boxes and stuff... here's a couple video links: 6 String Cigar Box Guitar Rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMRp4sRfotQ Double Neck Cigar Box Guitar, LoFi St. Louis Feature http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFAnBQqitts So anyway, a while ago a [different] forum member Samuel requested submssions for a benefit compilation album his record label was releasing. He runs Smelly Menace Records at: http://www.smellymenacerecords.com and is in the band Econo at: http://www.myspace.com/econorock So I was recording a record with an AMAZING drummer and harmonica player right at the time. I ended up sending him the first 8 songs we had mixed and mastered and telling him to pick one for the comp. Short story shorter, The Vickroids album: Worse Music For Worse People is being released on Smelly Menace Records out of Huston! All thanks to Samuel. To me, this is leagues better than being on any other label in the world at this point! Think about it: some big rich record label doesn't have to sweat releasing ANY records, they've got the scratch. Samuel is running a record label only to support independant music, nothing else. He's not making any money. Every other band he released is from his city, and probablly his friends. Yet through peaveyt60.com he heard my music and saw enough merit in it to spend [i'm sure] his own money to release this record. I'm probablly gonna make him blush with all this, but this means more than ANYTHING EVER to me, really..... So, Samuel just notified me today that the first pressing was in the mail to me today. The records are also avaliable for sale on his label's website at: http://www.houstonmusicreview.com/smellymenace/merch.html They are only $6 postage paid, so you all should go ahead and order one, just for me and Samuel..... I just... I'm really at a loss for words here. I can't even begin to verbalize how just f-ing awesome this whole thing is.... Sam, you made my year buddy, thanks! -M |

Wow! Thanks a ton! That was SUPER quick! You say picked " 'em " up.... There is only the one disk from my band, The Vickroids [the one with the aligator on the cover....] Of COURSE, buy one of everything from Smelly Menace; support independant music! YOU ROCK! |

I always thought my singing was better than my guitar-ing... Luckily I got 2 AMAZING musicians to come play drums and harp, it makes the guitar work a lot more.......transparent? Makes me look good, anyway |

and that's the thing- you don't need technical genius to produce a sound that's great and serves the song brilliantly. A pair of other musicians that help remind you of that rather than let yourself dwell on your shortcomings- well, I'm talking about myself here but you know how it is. |

Came back from vacation to find your cd and a new (to me) Phoenix bass waiting for me. Sure helped me deal with it being 40 degrees and raining instead of the 80 and sunny I had been getting. Love the cd, kind of Johny Thunders goes to the swamp |
