Some backyard squirrel troubles...the blue jays tried to run him off but he paid 'em no mind at all.

What raptor is that, JD?? I like raptors and have handled many of the local ones, quite some Aussie and NZ ones too; that fellow looks a little intimidating.... :-? :D

My wife thinks it's a brown falcon.....I go with red shouldered hawk. Both of us are probably wrong.

Squirrels are much tastier than Vienna Sausages JD. :)

Looks like a Red-tailed Hawk to me - pretty common here in Texas, particularly during winter - but they aren't as tasty as squirrels !!

Definitely an immature red-tailed hawk. You sure it was a squirrel OC, that tail under talons hints at a chipmunk?

This past January we had a northern goshawk intercept a blue jay midflight about 4 feet above the snow cover in our front yard. By the time my wife ran in and back out with her Nikon it had skedaddled, breakfast in hand and a second goshawk in pursuit intent on thievery I'm thinking.

Red-tailed's have a really haunting scream when quartering over a field hunting. A very common raptor up here in Minny.

Great pics, OC! Thanks for making my morning coffee more enjoyable.
