Post subject:  Pedal Question

Hi guys...I've got a question about the order in which pedals are placed.

Here's what I have:

Boss DS1 (I also have a Boss BD1, Blues Driver which I rarely use)
Boss PH3 Phase Shifter
Boss GE7 (Equalizer)
Boss TU3 (Tuner)
MXR Phase 90

In what order would you place these pedals and why? I'm curious because I've heard it matters, but I really don't have a clue.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies!!

Well I would go with the tuner first. That way you get the cleanest signal for it to read. Then I would go with either of the phase shifters followed by the drive and then the second phase shifter. This would allow you to phase the signal either before or after the drive. At the end I would put the eq. That is where it will give you maximum control.

I agree with that order of setup should work nicely.

Yep, looks good, though I'd whack the tuner on a line of its own but yeah; have the tuner first, then modulation then overdrives/distortions and lastly - before the gate - the EQ.
I think.

Just curious why you use that blues driver so little?

I have heard that the stock models are rather thin sounding. I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on it.

I am currently running my Blues Driver with a super Nice clean Music man amp and it adds to the top quality clean sounds of the amp very nicely when engauged.

All good advice above.

This brief article is pretty much in line with the general consensus.

I use it more when I play my Strat and Electra and, IMO, it sounds great! But when I play my Jackson, I like a really dirty heavey metal sound and it just doesn't seem to get nasty enough. Maybe it's a setting thing, but the DS1 sure gets the nasty sound I like!

Thanks Randy (and Arthur) for your opinions.

I have been thinking about one of those BD-1's for awhile now, but had heard without the Keeley Mod they are not all that spectaular. Seeing as how there are 2 MusicMan RD's hanging around here I may need to do a little more investigation / experimentation.

tuner, EQ, OD, distortion, THEN modulation... otherwise your amplifying the sound of your modulation, backround swish and all. From a noise point of view its EQ your guitar clean then boost your clean signal with an Overdrive, then add any distortion or fuzz, then modulate and then echo or delay. BUT, try them different ways and use your own ears, there's no reason you can't put them in any order you want, although some vintage fuzzes don't like to play well unless first in line.
