....yesterday afternoon I started feeling a bit numb and tingly on the left side of my pretty lips....then as time went on (couple or three hours), the whole left side of my face went into partial paralysis. I GOT BELLS PALSEY. How ya like them apples. Now I'm droolin food out the left side of my mouth like I used to see some old folks doin in the eatin joints. I can't handle a soda bottle and I have to slurp my coffee. I need a bib.

I can't wiggle my ear, can't wiggle my nose without grabbin em between my fingers. How am I gonna know if I got a hard bugger in there what's ready for expungin?

The dog drinks easier than I do.

I can't wink my left I eye but I can close it if the right eye is already closed. Talk about a lop sided grin...now....I got one.

Wife is a retired Trauma/ER nurse of 30+ years and she diagnosed it correctly to begin with. She hasn't laughed at me yet...at least not openly. The dog still tries to bite me....so that's no different.

Doc today said that it should be gone in 30 days or so. Put me on steroids and anti viral meds just incase. She told me that I may have some lingering droopiness.....I'm 58 now and lots of stuff is starting to linger. I'll put it on the list.

How about that sorta thing for a surprise? Man........

JD that is really wicked stuff there, but we're glad to know that it has a name and a cure... whew! Keep the faith my friend, and thanks for reminding us that scary stuff can come when you least expect it. Mike.

J.D. I am sorry to hear of the diagnosis and will keep you in our prayers for a speedy recovery. It seems we all find new things as we age that we were unaware of or never noticed before. Just remember that you are only as young as you feel so feel young and stay young. Music is a great factor in staying young I think and helps with other stuff as well. Never give in and maintain a great attitude and you will go far. Best of Luck for a full and speedy recovery. Arthur

Get well J.D. We will be thinking of you. I will make sure my 2 1/2 year old includes you in prayers tonight. Ron

That's a bit of a bugger, mate; but as has already been stated, the affliction has a name and a cure, so that's all good, eh!!

Keep your chin up, my friend...

(..... Is it a bit premature to put dibs on your guitars??!!) :D

Very poor form that last... very poor form indeed!!

Shee-yoot! Sorry to hear it but glad to hear 30 days might clear it up. Think of it this way - it beats being born ugly. Seriously though, I hope it runs it's course quickly.

Just remember to play one of those Electra Beauties each day several times a day for therapy J.D. I can think of nothing else that can bring back that smile quicker than a good Electra especially when you are the one playin it. That is just good therapy anytime I think. Hope you recover quickly and will keep you in our prayers. Only side effect of this type therapy is that it seems to encourage more egas symptoms but egas with a smile can't be so bad. Good Luck

Thanks Arthur...you're one of the good guys.

Well, if I think about it....maybe you all are good guys, except for all this enablin that goes on around here. You see what a poor diet gets you when you ain't got no money left for food....BELLS PALSEY. Beanie weenies, vienna sausage, crackers, and cheese dip.

There is no pain in this for me....lots of folks have pain associated with this stuff, but I don't have none. You should have been able to watch me eatin my Big Mac this evening....that was a trip. Can't control the left side of my lips so I have to pull em back away from my teeth with my finger before I bite down. The first bite was a big mistake.

And thank you all for your well wishes and prayers for me. Of all that I've been through....and that isn't much compared to some folks, I'm still a lucky and fortunate man. Blessed some would say. Most folks that get this stuff are in their 20's and 30's so I hear. Wonder why I did. It's viral....usually, I think. Inflamation of the nerve that controls the facial muscles on that side. Who knows for sure. I thought it happened after I popped my jaw that day.

EDIT: Oh...I forgot to tell you. My wife bought me a box of straws today. And dandy straws they are too, they bend...they got a flex joint. How about that.

She sounds like a true keeper, JD... a nurse with a pension and I'll bet she keeps a cold beer handy for you too!!

You are a lucky man from the sounds of it.

With those bendy straws you can drink through your nose. Just sayin'. It may seem wrong, but I've done it, and I don't think I suffered any adverse effects yet.
