We have been vacationing in Central Florida for the last week. We had a little rain and some strong winds, but now are hoping our flight to Detroit today is not scrubbed or too shaky.

This is unbelievable, but prayers do work; be safe and God be with everyone in the path of Sandy.

I hope all made it OK. Here in NYC we got hit pretty hard but I am OK. A few blocks away is a different story. I am trying to find out who needs help/shelter etc. but information is still sketchy.

Oy Vey Jead, that was a long wait. My brother in N. Jersey got his back on Friday and O thought that was a long time. Enjoy a long hot shower and a cold beer.

Shower accomplished :D. I've now lost my layers of insulating woodsmoke and dirt. Staying away from ANYTHING cold for now. The coffe pot is in use though. My area where I live has no gas or water service and our stove is electric as well - so fortunately the bathtub was filled with water for flushing and there's a stream about 150 feet behind the house. The wood burning stove took care of the rest. We sadly lost a bunch of BIG trees but none hit the house. All in all there are many people who lost MUCH more - the coastal area is devestated and many lost their HOMES. It's not been a great deal of fun but in the end, I was fortunate to be "inconvenienced". I hope I'll be able to help those less fortunate in some way. In the meantime please keep them in your thoughts.

You have a great attitude. I volunteered helping people who were in a devastated part of Staten Island. I could not believe how up-beat the people were. Not only that but people who lost almost everything were still bringing things to us to give to others.

Sometimes I think the Tri-State area has a justified reputation for people being aloof but when the chips are down there is solidarity. This storm and 9/11 really brought people out of the woodwork to help. And speaking of wood..... I'll have no shortage of firewood for next year that's for sure. Kudo's to you for stepping up and volunteering. I know SI is pretty ravaged.
