This is copied from a post I wrote at Westone.org, but I think it applies here as well...

Hiya gang... as one or two of you may have noticed, the above forum has gone belly-up for a week or two now, and attempts by another forum member and myself to contact the site admin have fallen on deaf ears, so I'm afraid it might be the case that it has disappeared for good, which is a tragedy as the information available for all to access on that site was a major bonus.

Perhaps the fact that the traffic there had dropped to the point where it was no longer viable to keep it open has something to do with the admin not repairing it; I don't know, but it saddens me to see a top-notch site like that go down.

I know, too, the admin was quite unwell some time back so there may well be health issues to boot.

In any case, if it has indeed gone the way of the dodo, then I salute Neal, and Jon, Jorg and je for their efforts and thank them for the information and enjoyment I've had from the site since 2004!

I'd be willing to take it over and cover the expenses if the current owners are no longer interested.

Been a while! Maybe a decade? Had to dig through ancient backups to find my login.

I was in a bit of a panic at first. Something like this happened once before when GoDaddy had a DB server crash. Had to restore from a month previous. This time GoDaddy decided to change the host names of the database servers without letting anyone know. Just a quick tweak to the cfg file fixed it without losing a single post.

Thanks for the offer Jack! JB has been taking care of the hosting costs for quite some time now but it's probably time to give him a break. Once the current year runs out I'll likely be moving the site to a hosting plan that knows what they are doing with Apache and MySQL and offer Cpanel. With the help of a few of the crew I'll probably start doing long overdue updates a little at a time.
