Hi all. Name's John Black. I'm 30 years old now and starting from 10 I'm playing the guitar. My day job is as a Land Surveyor, but my passion remains my Music Studio. I've already worked with some underground bands and touched and played several guitar models. I've just started to review different guitars models and I though that will be good to see a couple opinions about them. So here I am, hoping to make some new friends, and to help if I can, with my limited knowledge. If you want to see my new reviews and help me with some rating and comments, come on http://guitaroptics.com/. Cheers! :D

A new model came to my studio, ESP LTD EC-256. I had a quick review of it. It seems to be well build, a nice thin neck with a good handling. When plugged in this ESP sounds really solid on the drive channel and the riff part. The downside is the clean channel, but with some pedals and a good tube amp it's pretty decent. All in all for its price range, I think it can be a good choice if you want to do some hard rock/heavy metal stuff. What do you think about this one? If there is somebody who tried this model, feel free to share your thoughts about it! Check it out on http://guitaroptics.com/esp-ltd-ec-256-black/. Thanks! :D

Hi all. I had the chance to grab another type of guitar and play it at my studio. It's a jazzy one, the Ibanez Artstar SS300 Hollowbody. I was really impressed with it. Come and check its review on http://guitaroptics.com/ibanez-artstar-ss300-hollowbody/. Any feedback is nice! Thanks!

That 'SG Standard' looks more like a '61 Les Paul than the later SG if you ask me, they even put 'Les Paul' on the headstock. The original single cutaway LP was discontinued in 1960 and Gibson introduced what we now know as the SG body in 1961 as the 'New Les Paul' (unbeknownst to Lester Paulson, who immediately threw a hissy fit). In around 1963 they started calling it the SG, and retired the LP name until the late 60's when Gibson noticed all of the guitar gods of the day playing ten year old (50's) single cutaway LP's. The other styling cue is the smaller (and better looking in my opinion) pickguard, around 1968 Gibson started using the bigger pickguard with the pickups mounted directly to them on the SG's, bad move.

One of the few things that Les Paul can be directly attributed to (and he demanded) on the original (1952..?) LP's is the wrap-under one-piece bridge, which was totally awkward to use, and was so badly received that Gibson quickly came out with the now standard Tune-o-matic bridge with a stop tailpiece setup. Many of those originals were later retrofitted with separate bridge and stop tails, which ironically makes them less desirable (and valuable) to collectors, but finally made them playable instruments. If only Les was half the genius he thought he was… I know that's going to rub a lot of people the wrong way, sorry.

Hi proendorser! Many thanks for the feedback! For sure I didn't know all those things and thanks for sharing them. It's a quite interesting story, and I always wondered from where the SG model came from. Cheers mate!
