Cool little guitar I bought years ago. This tiny Maryland manufacturer only made an estimated 3000 guitars over a seven or eight year period between 1967 and 1974.

I heard that MF is back in business - I think one of the original guys has resurrected it. I haven't seen any new guitars yet though. Those guys were pretty innovative with the their tuning system and also, if I remeber correctly, they used Bill Lawrence pups. I've been wanting one for a long time but just haven't been able to pull the trigger.

There is a microfrets.com but I think the resurrected company failed (don't quote me on that). The website is pretty bare and doesn't look like its been updated in quite some time. If memory serves, they were asking $1500 to $2000 for guitars, when you can get really nice 40 year old originals for $1200. Much like the (still to be seen...) Electra reissues, I find it hard to believe there is that much demand for new guitars when the originals can be had for (significantly) less. Mike.

A friend got a MF back in '80 for cheap. It was a nice playing guitar, but then he went to bass and traded it for a Gibson EB0. Wish I had snagged it before the trade.

Just found this Johnny Cash video with two MicroFrets in it... WooHoo! The guitar on the ground may be a MF too. Enjoy, Mike.

I missed this when you posted it before. The microfret stuff is somehow compelling to me-- I'd love to check one out. So ugly it's cool, you know? Great playing on the demo video, as always, Mike.

And the Bassman sounds awesome too, if I don't say so...

Thanks Steve, the MicroFrets are kind of an acquired taste! Very unique and a bit hard on the eyes, except for maybe the 'Huntington' which is a pretty looking instrument. The later ones like this had Bill Lawrence designed single coils which were bright like a Rickenbacker, but had some power behind them. The guy I sold it to lives in Fredrick, Maryland and works literally down the street from the original MF shop. He was really jazzed about getting this one, and since I hadn't really played it in the past couple years it was a win/win for us both.

The Bassman has got a number of compliments, so my hats off to you for that custom work you did for me. It really shines with Single Coils so I thought it only appropriate to use it for this vid. Since I made this the Normal Channel has taken a powder... it still works, but there is like less than half the volume output of the modded 'Bass' channel now. Not the end of the world, and I haven't even started swapping out preamp Tubes to see if it is something that obvious that went. Someday I'll get in there and do some troubleshooting. Until then, it's a pretty nice sounding 40+ year old amp though! Thanks again, Mike.

ouch, the Huntington is somewhat of an abomination, too! But really cool at the same time! I love it.

Swap V1 and V2 (far right tubes looking at the back of the amp). See if the symptom moves to the other channel. If so, it's the tube. If not.... contact me and I'll help troubleshoot. It's not rocket surgery.
