I found a Crestline Bolt-neck LP copy in a store, and am thinking of buying it. No - I can't justify it, but it is cool. It is a lot like some early Electras, blonde LP copy with bolt-neck, Made in Japan and has a maple neck with block inlays (not crowns like the electras that had those maple necks and black crown inlays). This one has two uncovered cream colored humbuckers, remind me of Dimarzio PAFs but they may be stock (can't take it apart to be certain). These may be factory Gotohs or something like that. There are parts that have obviously been changed, including it has grovers, it has new pickguard, likely a replacement bridge (appears to be an abr type mount with a more modern Gibson or similar wider type tuneomatic (looks new), new knobs, the nut looks like a replacement too (and not a very good one at that). One thing that worries me a bit are the frets are "fretless wonders" - or they are really low frets. The pickups are really bright and lively, but can't really say what they are, except the cream color is quite aged making me think they are 70s pieces. The guitar has interesting binding, cream on the neck, black and cream on the body. The body seems to be solid pieces and is not figured (not the plywood arched top that many of those had back then) and it seems fairly heavy.

The guitar can be a lot better with some care. I am most concerned about the frets, as I would not want to attempt to refret a maple neck like this. I'll post a pic when I am able. Haven't bought it. But it IS calling me. Maybe I will if I can get the price down a little.

Back slowly away John! Naw, do as you please, but the older I get the less I want to pick up a ten pound guitar! I really like the curved (not carved) top models that were being made by Japan in the 70's. They're lively and light. The ones with the really pointy diamond shaped control cavity covers seem to be my favorite (see the 2256 Jacaranda video for an example). Not sure who was making those, but anytime I see that sharp diamond cover, I have to think it was made by the same factory. Best of luck, Mike.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I really like my x330 - the original MPC that I purchased and still have. It is set neck, and has that plywood top, and I really like it because it is lighter and a little "livelier" if you will. It also has been played so much there aren't any frets left too. It has the brass sustain block in it too. These were not Tom P's favorites though, he jokingly (or not?) referred to that as a sustain BLOCK (like it was blocking the sustain) and chuckled. But I have played a number of those from other brands as well (likely made in the same factory) like an earlier Aria bolt-neck LP copy and it sounded and played great!

I didn't weigh this beast. It is heavier though, maybe 9-10lbs.

Yes to the weight thing!! I played a mates APII PE-Supra a while back, and whilst superb in every way - fit and finish were exemplary, features and wee touches mind-boggling!! - it weighed just over 5kg on Dons scales, and, old and fat as I now find myself, I couldn't hang that around my neck for 3 hours!!



Simply wonderful instrument, apart from that!!

This little thing, mind you, was a revelation - APII PE150; light, handy and as punchy as all hell; this, friends, shall be mine!!
