Interesting observation #1: The 5-way rotary wiring diagram is "as viewed from the top" of the switch, which is not normally the way you look at it if you are wiring it.....

my new 5-way is much smaller, and the pin layout is a bit different, but I think I figured out the differences....

That truss rod cover would pass for stock man, great job. I don't envy you trying to wire up that rotary... have something mellow like The Carpenters playing when you go to do that!

thanks. I couldn't find a typeface to perfectly match, so I used letters from 2 different ones, and then modified the "P" a bit. looks like I chould have cleaned up the C a bit more before I ran it through the cutter...

yeah, the 5-way is gonna be interesting, since the pin layout is slightly different... but I was able to study both the original and the new to figure out where stuff goes, and determine that the wiring diagram on the site here is "as viewed from the top side of the switch"! it'll be "fun" that's for sure :)

I need to pick up another toggle switch though, as I used one to replace a busted one on my 730 already....

did a bit of wiring tonight....

work template for the control cavity...

The rotary with the pickups and grounds wired... the diagram doesn't show which pup goes where, but since I had an original rotary, and the brochure information that the bass pickup is the only one active is setting 2, by setting the switch in pos. 2, I was able to determine which one goes where....

The module connectors wired...

the connectors installed, and 12V lead hooked up...

Looking good thus far, nice work. That 5 ways sounds great but looks like a beast to wire. Good Luck and keep us all posted. Thanks

well, it's all wired, and semi-put together. just have on string on it to test out the electronics... for good reason too, as the second module slot is non-working...

I wired this up using the diagrams on this site. I believe I will have some updates to the diagrams :)
http://www.rivercityamps.com/electra/sh_wire.php

And I did use the Steve Higdon toggle switch wiring as well, but this is one I believe needs "fixed".

The other diagram I want to do, is a new version of the 5-way witch wiring as seen from the bottom, as that's the most common way to "see" it while you are wiring it up... plus a diagram based on the newer 5-way switches...

the newer 5-way is a bit deeper too, so the pins have to be bent over some so the pickguard lays flat...

The knobs I have on it are the scalloped style like the phoenixes had... I just used the original bridge for testing now too... may just re-use it since I aquired it with the ingot...

Wiring Diagram Updates. (So Far)

Added the pin numbers.

Original Steve Higdon Control Cavity Wiring Dagram

Added pin numbers and corrected the diagram for the input/output pins (H & C) of module 2, and changed color coding to match the above diagram for the Module connectors for ease of wiring...

Many thanks for the diagram. Can it be added to the main page?

How does she play?

yeah, I'll have Paul add thediagram in when I'm done, plus I'll post all of this build/info on my site as well...

I worked on a color/cleaned up version of the 5-way diagram, and a version "as seen from the bottom" of he switch... plus I will be adding a pic of the new type 5-way rotary, with the pin-outs numbered...

i was late last night, so I don't have it totally set-up yet. I need to pick up a full set of strings yet...

the pieces I'm still missing, and hoping to get from the guy I got most of the other parts from are:

control cavity cover
MPC cavity cover with hinges and round brass door "latch"
silver strap pins... (I have a gold set, but that just doesn't seem right...)

 That is looking very, very, nice. It is wonderfull to see that she was saved from the scrap heap. As we all know now more than ever we are seeing to many good Electra instruments with minimul problems being scrapped out for parts. I saw a rather nice 2276n strat early model with only 1 pickup needing work that has been totaly scrapped out for parts instead of replacing the one pickup. Great work on this project and thanks again for allowing us tobe in on the progress reports. Hope to see you and hear her at the electrafest in 2010. Great Job and thanks again
