I looked at it twice - 'cause it's just that pretty. Hand carved one piece solid maple body and that heel-less neck design looks mighty similar to an Endorser. Yeah, I'm liking that guitar a lot. I know doodly squat about proto-matic pickups. Can any Aria people out there comment/compare?

Good luck with that one Dave - Would it break your heart to just keep it??

I'm pretty sure if you know about MMK pups you know about protomatics. That is the name the Aria badge hung on them I believe.

What up with that bridge? I found an ad for the PE-1000, and sure enough there is a screw sticking out an inch and a half on the bass side. For my money, nothing can touch the PE-R80, cloud inlays with a carved top AND back:

Double Wow! Sorry Dave, Mike just stole your thunder. Both of those are exceptionally beautiful and look to be excellently crafted guitars. I'm feeling the beginnings of A-GAS.

Absolute Aria beauty you have there. The Aria model line is also a very high quality and craftsmanship level model made by Uncle Matt. I have a few of the Aria Pro II models and love them. Both of these models would be the ultimate top of the line models for Aria and will not dissappoint. Awesome axe.

My ebay pix may not show it well, but the 1000 has a carved back also, wish it had the cloud inlays like the 80 !! I wish I could keep it..............yeah, I don't understand why the bridge screw isn't shorter !! Other than the screw, I am SOOOO impressed with this guitar, the case is even 9.8/10 - it must have fallen thru a wormhole, it can't be 34 years old LOL

Sorry Dave, didn't mean to hijack your thread, I've been lurking around for a PE for the past couple months though and thought I'd opine my ultimate goal. No RCS, the one pictured above is not mine, just lifted the pics from an Auction. I'm finding that the PE-R80's can go from $700 to over a grand, which in short means I'll probably never land one! Too big a cheapskate here. Ah well, we can all admire them from afar, right?

Promatic are the Aria name for MMK pups. They all are good. Given the age they tend to benafit from being wax potted.

Nice PE-1000! Love the Birdseye Maple top on those!!
Just noticed this thread...and it makes me happy!

Just grabbed a 1982 PE-R80 in VG condition (actually a bit less dinged up than the PE-1000 in the pics) for $600 last week on SleazeBay. I thought it was too good to be true, but it was one of those no reserve auctions that ends on a Wednesday.....I notice the weekend auctions attract more bidders oftentimes. It was also from a pawnshop so I figured it was a bit of a risk, but it paid off!

I bought it to collect, but it's a much more balanced and reasonably weighted axe than my player grade endorser so I'm getting quite attached. I'm blown away every time I pick it up! The pickups absolutely suck for the heavy/hard rock stuff I like to do, but I'm thinking of dropping in a SD 59/Distortion combo (don't worry stock pups will be on my shelf). My endorser handles hi-gain like a hot knife through butter btw. The tone of the R80 unplugged is tear-inducing though. Beautiful.

Sounds like it's more desirable than I first realized and it's worth as much as I hoped!

If I decide to sell it I'll drop it here first, you can be sure!

Otherwise I'll make sure to get some pics posted once I get rid of the stomach flu this week.
