Well, i've finally decided to sell one of my X199's for several reasons even though its really hard to do. This is a great guitar and its in real nice shape, hardly been played at all. I'd really like to sell it to a forum member instead of going to ebay, so hopefully that will happen. All original (even the whammy bar) except i'm almost positive the volume/tone knobs are not original. Sounds clean as a bell and all push-pull pots work great, and she has practically zero fretwear. I have tons of bubble wrap and a gigbag for bulletproof shipping.
I'd like to get $325 which i think is a fair price and please let me know if you think otherwise. A clean blueburst went for $430 last week, but it had the OHSC and blueburst is probably the most sought after color. PM me if interested, thanks!

Here are the few dings that are on the guitar. There is a little bit of scratching on the back and a small one above the serial number on the back of the headstock. The black metal hardware has worn a bit in places but thats pretty common. The horns are in excellent shape and the rest is as well. Trying to be as honest as possible.

Sweet! Last one of those I played was over nine pounds... how much does yours weigh?

I'm not quite sure how much it weighs actually, i don't have a scale at home either. 9 pounds sounds about right, it's a solid guitar for sure!

I'm interested. A few questions:

1) the picture of the back of the headstock shows a crack or scratch. Just a scratch?

2) How would you describe the neck shape? What's it similar to? I've never played one of these, so I'm clueless here.

3) How would you describe the tone of these pups? Are there two push-pull pots so they buckers can be split independently? I read the link you provided but the switching/pots confuse me. What are the configurations?

These H/S/H pickup configurations are super versatile, I especially like the tones with the center single coil added. They were available on seven or eight different Electra guitars, check out this video as an example:

Obviously a completely different guitar, but the Dynasty had the exact same electronic setup. First push/pull is for single coil (globally, both pickups), 2nd turns on the center single coil, 3rd push/pull is for phase. These X199's are made ENTIRELY out of Maple and are heavy good sustaining instruments. Cheers, Mike.

Thanks for the answer and link there Mike, like you said the configuration on that Dynasty is the same as my X199. The tone of the pups is pretty sweet, it has MMK45's in there which are specific only to Matsumoku made guitars and have a unique sound. The mark above the serial number on the back of the headstock is a scratch which isn't very deep and hard to see at some angles. There are absolutely no cracks on this guitar. As for the neck, i'd say its simiar to a standard strat neck but a little faster, it feels a bit thinner. The neck is very similar to the neck on my Dynasty and Westone FX. Maybe someone else will chime in and give you their opinion of the neck, and thanks for your interest Bob.

Bob... I've read alot about the Phoenix / Spectrum model line and not just here and over at the Westone forums. I have yet to hear bad word #1 about the overall playability of these guitars, especially the necks.

I am not intending to sound like a shill here, but a man with your knowledge and experience really needs to pick one of these up. Probably no other single model can quintessentially represent Electra and Westone as a Phoenix.

Another plus there on yours Hobs is the later construction of those '45's.

By the time Electra was building these I understand that Mr. Presley had made a number of refinements to the original specs and the humbuckers in your x199 are more like "Super" MMK45's.

I agree with your MMK45 comments Ice - for some reason the early 80's versions really sound better than the earlier ones to me. They seem to ohm about the same though. Maybe different wire gauge??? I will also agree with the neck analysis - I've never had an X189 or 199 but I've had 4 X185's and every one was a good, fast playing neck - I want to say D shape - but I'm not sure. Anyway, IIRC medium frets and way more tonal options than I could handle.
