Hey, I just picked up an X280 working man in the typical brown stain. This thing is CRAZY clean. It isn't perfect (a few minor dings), but the guitar looks almost new. It has been put away and not played much. I went through it and oiled the rosewood on the fretboard, cleaned it slightly (didn't require much), and polished the frets and put on new strings. I also filed the nut slightly and did a setup including action and intonation. It is - like I said - crazy clean. I used some caig deoxit on the switch and pots as it sat for a long time and was not used - they work perfectly. It has MMK45s in it, very clean with virtually no wear. It has the original hardware, no pitting, clean, and as operational as new. It has the larger "white" logo and the original notched speed knobs. It even has the plastic on the back. It very well. Although these were not the top of the line models there isn't anything that isn't really nice about this vs. the more expensive models other than the plain finish and bolt neck. It has the good quality peace sign keys and the same bridge and tail as the others (all chrome, and clean and working freely - no corrosion! Yeah! you never see that) and the 3 way switch is located near the pots behind the tailpiece post area.

The few dings are mostly around the perimeters, and a few near the back of the headstock (like it was leaned against something instead of on a stand). Other than that it is nearly perfect.

Is $250 too much for one in this condition? I can post pics. Let me know. It is super nice. It was so nice I just could NOT HELP but buy it. But I don't need it. If you don't have one in your collection, this is the one for it. It is in great collector grade quality - all original and no modifications beyond cleaning and setup.

Niiiiiice. Plastic still on the control cover. Alas, I have both variations already. I paid a hair more for my X280, and it is not in as good condition as this one! Good Luck.

That looks to be in superb condition, John.

If I hadn't already picked up Joe's x270 last year I'd of pm'ed you on it already.

Good luck!

$250 is not a terrible price - we used to see them sub $200 all the time. Not so much anymore. A good clean example like yours should be worth a bit of a premium. Case or gigbag is always a plus. I think most of us would agree that the Workingman is a very appropriate name for these guitars - good quality throughout with no more and no less than you need. If I were you Thorny, I'd keep that one.

Those are such fine machines... I nearly sold mine a few months ago and am so glad I did not.

Of all the Electras - with the obvious exceptions of the Phoenix range!!! - I'd like one of these; they look really solid performers, eh; just a good all round instrument!

The odds of me finding one including shipping to Australia for less than a kings ransom, however, are pretty darn slim! :(
