Hello,

Would anyone happen to have a bridge humbucker from an old X-185?

I'm looking to try the new Phoenix H, but it could be that I'm not too hot on the new pickup - I'm of the opinion that the one from the X-185 is the cleanest, smoothest and most dynamic sounding pickup ever - and I've tried manyyyyy.

So in the event that I'm not so hot on the alnico one in the new H model, maybe someone has an X-185 they're willing to give up??

You're looking for a MMK45. They pop up on the Bay sometimes.

Not all MMK45's are created equal. They were in production for at least 6 years, and to my well-used ears, the early versions seem to be more powerful, whereas the later versions with the faux bar pole piece have less output (your milage may vary). Remember that high output is not necessarily what you want, and that many high output pickups can be middy, harsh and lacking fidelity. Lots of players pine for the PAF sound, which is typically around 7-9Kohm resistance, the MMK is not a PAF!

The early MMK's have a row of slot screw pole pieces, later ones would have dual row of Allen head poles and the last version had the fake bar over one coil. I tend to really like the early slotted screw versions made from roughly '80 to '81, but you know what they say about opinions! Best of luck.

Absolutely! Even 45's within a year have shown variance. They were mass produced and not very "exactly" the same like today's pickups are. I have experienced many sets of 45's, some I like and some I think sound thin and hollow. It is a junk shoot as to what you'll find.

Ok, well, I went ahead and got the 2015 Phoenix and the magnaflux humbucker blew my mind! I would love to get another one of them!! If anyone has replaced theirs and would like to unload it, let me know!!

Aren't they great? I love mine.

Get a Talon with the humbucker, they rule too.
