I bought this guitar at a yard sale. I'm trying to figure out what model it is.
It looks and plays sweet! The tone knobs push/pull to throw the pups out of phase. Tones out the wazoo.

Looks to be a 1983 X935CS Pro Endorser. There's more info on Electraman's site.

PS. Please don't let Electraman know I was here. :o He has sent me updates for his Visitor's Axes page and have not gotten to it yet. (Got a DVD+RW drive and have been fighting with HW/SW issues ever since. DVD X Copy is not helping matters much).

If it fulfills that longing desire for a Paul, I'm all for it. You know I'm still going to ride you about a PE until you at least finally try one.

Congratulations on the new axe, Electraman! I know you've been pining for one. What's the weight on that one?

What is the story on that 935?

Was it in a pile of stuff at the yard sale when your radar spotted it?
Did it used to belong to the lady's deceased father or husband?

Was it naked in the open air or in a case?
Don't ask me why I need to know this stuff.

How come these stories only happen to other people, finding
treasure at junk shops and yard sales. Gonna keep looking.

Finally can you share how much you beat it out of her for?
---

Electraman
is evil and must be punished. Not so much for crossing enemy lines
but for waving a pic of that very sumptuous looking guitar when we are
still recovering from the damage xmas done to our wallets.

Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do while you still can.

Congrats on the acquisition. Hope it gives you some good playing time.

Can you also share what you beat the seller down too?

I'm a bit curious as to what that X935CS ran you as well. Considering it was a garage sale I'd guess you happened on a pretty sweet deal!

I imagine that Paul was a bit more than pocket change, but knowing Electraman knows what he does I'm fairly positive he managed to get a pretty good price and the guitar is pretty straight. Looks clean in the pic!

Ahem, uh, Jbyear1, do you remember what that last Skylark 2588 went for on eBay? The one before that? :) And think, you didn't even have to rummage through old mismatched socks, dishes, and baby clothes to get to it. Just teasin' ya! It's got the perfect home now which is the only important thing.

What is the story on that 935?

I was back in my hometown visiting family. Just happened past a yard sale and decided to stop. It looked like the people were moving and just trying to get rid of a bunch of stuff.

Was it in a pile of stuff at the yard sale when your radar spotted it?

I noticed an old guitar case back behind a table on their porch and inquired.

Did it used to belong to the lady's deceased father or husband?

I bought it from the guy who owned it.

Was it naked in the open air or in a case?
Don't ask me why I need to know this stuff.

Like I said, it was in the case. It wasn’t hidden but it wasn’t really out with all the other stuff they were hoping to sell. I don’t think he really wanted to sell it.

Finally can you share how much you beat it out of her for?

The guy had hinted that he’d like to get around $400 for it… I had $220. cash on me… I pulled it out right in front of him, put the twenty back in my pocket stating the fact that I needed it for gas to get home. I offered him the 2 bills. He sadly took my money. I kind of felt bad for a minute. I got over it, he could have said no.

Electraman, if you don’t mind saying, what did yours cost you on ebay?

Sorry dude....i wasn't asking what you paid for the LP. I thought you bought a X935CS Pro Endorser on ebay. Rechecking your site, i see it was Neal who bought one.

And, that would be me. :)

I paid $325 for mine. It's not perfect but rather clean all things considered. $200 is not bad at all, especially once you get your hands on it and realize the class of instrument it is. I'd have to say if it's in good shape (as it appears) you easily ended up with a bargain. And case to boot. Nice job, hopefully you consider it a keeper. :D

Thanks for the replies guys. I love to hear these "how I found it" stories.
Don't ask me why, I just do. The more trivial the detail, the better.
I'm happy to hear you guys have found and rescued these guitars.
Great stuff.

AP2 reminds me of a great deal I also got in the form of a certain Skylark.
I was very lucky that one just fell from heaven onto my laps.

It didn't just happen though. I had been looking high and low for something
like that. Patience and perseverance pay off in the long run. Aprox. 250.

I was playing it yesterday with the Rolling Stones thru a Harmony H-410 15wt tube
turned all the way up. It gave up a cool honk I had never noticed thru my solid state amps.
Mick Taylor was green with envy when I blew him away on "can you hear me knockin".

I was live but they were on Memorex. I'm ready for the gig when they come to town.

Sorry it took so long for my reply. I purchased mine new back in '83. I bought it from a music store going out of business. I can't remember the exact price, but it was less than $400 with the hard shell case.
I remember talking with a tech at St. Louis music a short time later, and he told me they stopped making the Endorser because it was getting too expensive to build. With the quality that goes into these guitars, he said they would have to retail at $2000. Mind you, this was back in the mid 80's! I wouldn't part with mine for anything.
