I wouldn't take the second and third digits to be the month - at least not in all cases. All the ones I have with 7 digit serials seem to be YMMXXXX, but my Quantum has a 5 digit serial, 84009. In that case I think the first two digits are the year, since they don't appear in the 88 catalogue / price list

OK... let me run with this theory for just a little while longer.

Are there any "seven digit" Westones out there that would not follow the YMMxxxx format?

....and while you're here......How old is the oldest "seven digit" Westone?

Are you counting 84 Electra Westones? And are you considering the SLM WEstones (85-86) as different from the non-SLM Westones that started 81 or so?

From previous coments, some (or all?) of the later Westones did not have seven digit serial numbers. I've never seen an Electra-Westone here in the UK and I don't know what the format of the serial number is. If its seven digits, yes it's included in my original question:-
