Skylark 2588
It is at $260 at this writing. This is the upper scale model with all the switches for coil cut, phase, etc.
I would grab it if I didn't already have one.

Funny thing is it went for a whole eBay cycle at $399. USD without 1 bid. Then he relisted at $250 and wound up 23 higher, mist of that coming in the last few minutes.

The winner is "chicagoauctionhouse" and I'll bet they are going to
auction it off for a bit more.

I've noticed that several times, there are often good deals to be had on auctions starting at high bids. It's as if people see there are no bids last minute and think there must be sth wrong. Just a tip (for buyers and sellers)

Hi guys, Im new here and just wanted to pop in say "hi". I have become hooked on matsumoku guitar ever since my mom bought my first red skylark from jc penny's in 1981 (which i still have). And, it just so happens im chicagoauction house. I won't be selling this baby anytime soon! It was in sweet condition! unmolested electronics, very minor chips or scratches, and its sounds like a million bucks through my rivera clubster 45. it is in near collectors condition, with zero fret and fingerboard wear. It weighs a ton, and transports you immediately back to the sounds of the late 70's early 80's (i just used it at practice on wed). I can only imagine that the reason it didn't sell the first time around was due to the sellers negative feedback history, but i'm not sure. all I know is that i got it, and its is sweet! now, for more bad news, i bought (under another ebay namet) The Masterpiece for $590 BIN in darn near collectors condition ebay #7402696530. I can bearly contain myself stimpy!!!! It should be here by tues. if anyone would like feedback on it. Take alook at the beauty on ebay if you get a moment, there are 50 pics of it.

Talk to you soon, Rich.

Looks like you did it again.
Another good score.
Of course we are expecting a full report as soon as you get a chance.

I think you got one with the jacaranda board.

Other f/b options:

PE-1000: Rosewood, Fine grain

Pickups:
PE-1500: DiMarzio Super Distortion
PE-1000: Proto-Matic-1

Bridge: Super-Matic

Body: Hand carved, one piece arched maple body.

Neck: Maple, 3 piece, matched, heel-less join.

Finnish: Violin (antique amber tones)

Tuners: MG-55C, friction-less non-slip precision for fine tuning.

So your the guy! :D

Good deal, I was keeping my eye on that Masterpiece. I hooked one last month on e-bay for $510, and I'm very pleased so far. Your's looked beautiful from the pictures I saw. That seller did a very professional job, and the guitar certainly looked to be worth the BIN price.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

Thanks! I will give a full report once is arrives. How can you tell what type of wood the fingerboard is? Rosewood vs Jacaranda? Or for that matter, if its a pe1000 or 1500? Buy the way, I just unloaded my Thor sound TS-300 on ebay for $200. It was a fine guitar, but i needed to pay for the masterpiece. So as it stands, once I get the masterpiece in the mail, I'll have that, the blue and red skylarks (missing the cheapest one) and a 1981 cardinal series Cs-250 (which sounds great). I also have a 1979 H-1100 Hondo Professional strat copy made by Tokai in very good condition. Its sunburst. My baby is a 2005 Taylor 810ce. That's about all the axes i have right now besides a beat up seagull s6 acoustic electric i bought new in 1993. I am glad I found this place, for awhile I thought I was alone in my obsession with older japanese guitars!

Take care y'all, Rich.

I'm not sure myself how you can tell the difference between fingerboards. The PE 1000 comes with "either" a rosewood or jacoranda fingerboard, and I can't really tell the difference. Mine has a beautiful grain, and seem's abit lighter in color than my other rosewood equipped fingerboard guitars, so maybe it is jacaranda?

The difference in the two models is the 1500 has DiMarzio pups, and again "either" a rosewood or ebony fingerboard! I think the 1500 was a Japanese only model, but I'm not totally sure on that. Yours is definetely a 1000...

Holy crymoney, so far this guitar rocks! I feel like neil schon! (just kidding). But seriously, the case and candy were worth the price of admission alone. Did someone say case! yes! the case is the original case for this badboy. it is perfectly shaped for this body. it has a unique padded red felt bottom for the heavy load. Inside were the original tags and warranty with a hand written date of Dec. 1977 ( i would have been 10) including the tuning key adjuster and allen wrench (with original pouch!). So, the guitar you ask! ohmygod. tone tone tone. and heavy heavy heavy ( which i prefer as my lead singer lets me play his international yellow hardtail 1979 strat sometimes during rehersal). so, off to practice tomorrow with this 29 year old sucker.....

My best, Rich.
