I've mentioned my preference for guitar stands shaped like coat trees, and a couple of people asked where to find them. Here's one source, though I'm sure there are a number of dealers that sell them:

This dealer is elevationmusicstore (in case that auction is expired), I've bought from them and had great service. currently they sell for $25 each plus shipping.


What I like to do is hang two guitars on each hook, with a pad between them (i often thread a sock around the bridge area to protect the back of the guitar on top, or don't worry about it for project guitars). This lets me hang 12 guitars on one stand; at present I have four of these stands set up in the studio and that about takes care of any guitars I want to have out of their cases.




One of the nice things about this is it gets guitars off the floor, no longer leaning against furniture (eek!) and best of all, it looks like a bunch of guitars, but not nearly as many as are there. As in "wow, you have a lot of guitars", not "OMG, you have an offensively huge number of guitars, are you nuts?" And that can be good for peace at home.


Jeffster reports that it may take a little modification to double up basses this way, I presume because of the scale length. Fair warning- the manufacturer doesn't suggest this doubling up, bt I've had no problems with it. Also, I don't extend the stand to full height.

for basses you need to extend them all the way nearly, and I had some issues with the weight of the basses, and it kept sliding down, until the bottom basses were touching the floor. I drilled and put in 3 nice screws, and no more problems.

it now currently houses 3 basses, an awesome sunburst electra 6 string, a banjo, and my National steel

works really nice, and no more messing with cases....

I have too many projects!

Don't want to take any credit where not due. I don't have this stand, though I am interested in it. I also don't have any bass guitars. So, by his post above, I'm guessing that it may have been mcbrat who mentioned it, and then filled in more detail.

Actually, I probably better not get this stand, because then I'll lose the arguement with myself that I don't have room for any more guitars! Having 9 electric guitars is challenging enough to get most of them into playing rotation.

This is the kind of stand I have used for years;

I was lucky enough to purchase one at a local music store for half price as it was a special order item that was not picked up within 30 days; I had heard of these before and now I use it all the time; I would be lost without it; I use it for electric and acoustic backups on stage.
