I picked up a PCM Jazz bass (short scale) a while back. replaced the jack, and it had a dead pup... took the pup apart, and couldn't find any breaks... I pulled off a few windings, but kept coming up with no readings on the multi-meter... til I realized I needed to remove the protective coating from the windings... tada! 3k. the other pup that was fine measured at 2.9k
I removed the coating with a soldering iron, then I put the leads back on, and soldered them to the winding leads (after putting some holes in the mount to hold the wires...) works great now....

unfortunately, I tossed a few pups a while back that were "dead" in the same manner....

Good job man! I've rescued many old pickups like that, some I still use today. Many companies claim to have vintage sounding pickups, but I've found few that actually come close enough to call replica.
