Someone has totally trashed what was once a probably pretty nice Guitar. Routes for a 3rd (center) humbucker, tremolo and mini switches... it makes you want to either cry or laugh. Interesting that the holes for the Volume/Tone knobs are in a diamond pattern instead of four in a row... can't tell if they filled the top or if it came from the factory that way, the MPC route in back is definitely from the factory.

I am going after this but hope the repairs are not beyond me. I have mpc parts from an outlaw bass with a broaken neck (not my doing) that is beyond repair. I have some nice blocks of mahogany. I hope that if I cleanup and fill the bad routes, install the MPC parts and do a refinish I could end up with a viable instrument. Wish me luck I probably will be back asking questions.

OK here is one already; I have two spare MMK 45's. How do you think they would work in it?

Workingman, you have a Pair of MMK45's just laying around?? Yeah, they'll work just great, and as X189 is often saying, those are really nice pickups with the unbalanced wound coils, lots of power, although you may want to wax them since they're out already. The 53's are pretty nice also. Just curious if both your pickups have the same number of leads? I think the rear pickup sometimes has an extra lead for phase reversal. Best of luck, it can not look much worse than it does presently... didn't mean to make fun of it man..!

Just saw it myself! Looks like they were trying to put a "Kahler" style trem in it! I could live with the center pickup but that bridge area is a mess! Forget about any "Transparent" style paint jobs that's for sure! If it went above $50, I'd leave it be although the case might be really nice.

Looks like it could live again. Since its there, I'd try three humbuckers. If you loose intrest I'll line up for it.

I got the pickups off e-bong a while ago. Both have only three wires. On one they were so short I opened up the pickup to solder on extensions and found the fourth lt now it is a four leads. It worked. I plan on doing the same with the second as it was not a scary or delicate procedure as I had been afraid it would be. Potting them now sounds like a good idea though I have never had any squeel or microphonic problems. BTW I love MMK45's and have them four guitars. In fact I have been thinking I should try something else just to see how they measure up.

I also though of keeping the center pickup but am not sure how I would wire it while using the five position switch. Perhaps I could keep it independent and swith it in and out with a push pull pot like some of the Pheonix models. If so I think I would go for a P90. They make them to fit humbucker size routes.

As for the finish I know it is not going to be transparent and was kind of thinking of keeping it black. I am open to any ideas though.

Uh oh... it's over 50 bucks with 15 hours left... wonder how many last minute 'snipers' there will be? I agree with Leia that there arn't a lot of usable parts, basically paying for a restoration project which could run into two, three hundred dollars of parts, plus all the time and effort involved.

A few years back I bought a Charvel body loaded with all the electronics for $100 (decent deal, factory active pickups and preamp installed) figuring I could just slap on a neck and bridge and have a reasonable instrument. Well, long story short, I ended up paying lots for a Charvel Neck and tuners and neck plate, and bought both the Tremolo and Hardtail Kahler bridges. I had over $400 into what I probably could have got a complete axe for $300. I enjoyed the project and still have the guitar if thats any indication. Sometimes a project isn't about saving money, it's about the pleasure you get from resurrecting something from the ashes. Cheers, Mike.

I got it and I hope it is a matter of months not years. I also hope it is not as bad a deal as Leia thinks. I figure the case is worth $50 or so and I had a 15% off coupon so the guitar cost me $49 with shipping, right . One of the reasons I went for it is that I have most of the parts to restore it already. I also have acces to the tools I will need. I will try to photo document the restoration proccess.

Keep us updated on the restoration process! would be interesting to see how you deal with that gaping hole - or are you going to follow through and install a Kahler bridge?
