By copy I mean open book headstock, custom shop headstock inlay etc. Essentially an LPC with Electra instead of Gibson on the headstock. Or is an early 2242 the closest you can get?

I can't think of one, but I'd never say never. It's possible early Omegas had an open book headstock, but I'm doubtful. all the pre-75 models I know of were bolt neck. If you said another name (like Aria or Greco) instead of Electra, then certainly.

Alright. I was just wondering specifically about Electra. Thanks!

:bawl: No LP copys with set neck in early models that I know of. The SG models had some set necks at one time early on but not certain about the headstock shapes. The Omega I agree would be the best shot at a set neck early style. Good Luck and Good Hunting

I'd look for an early rock strad, too. There was a weird changeover when SLM switched from ordering from Arai and Hoshino to ordering directly from Matsumoku and Terada (and..?), for instance the Burgundy Pro had an odd early version before switching to a different manufacturer. Somebody here researched that, can anyone find the thread?

The X110 Rock Strad is curiously a bolt-on, but appointed just like the X410 Jazz Strad and kinda like the X510 Concert Pro... very nice and very pretty, I bet they play great.

The Omega has the set neck, but different electronics having the tone-spectrum circuit and the mysterious 'Color' switches, which I suspect are just tone capacitors. Frankly this is that extra little something that Electra offered and set them apart from many clone makers... not satisfied with just making a 'copy' but adding some versatility to the basic design.

In the 70's while Electra was putting out the Omega and MPC's, the big American manufacturers were happy just to sit back on their laurels and watch the money roll in, doing little in the way of research or innovation.

The X110 Rock Strad was a great guitar - my first Electra (I should have kept it); however the pickups needed a little more punch - and even though the action was great, the bolt on neck was a lot thinner than what my MPC's have.

And the questions we wanna know are:

Did the early Rock Strad have an open book headstock?
Is the early Omega set neck?

well there you go, that's the closest thing you're gonna find in the electra lineup; an early X210 Omega Black Beauty with a openbook headstock and it's got a set neck. Doesn't have the script logo and diamond inlay that some of the early bolt ons had though. Also the five way and color switches are visually different from a LP, but make it soooo much more versatile man.

So are you in the market, or just asking questions? (looks worn but SOLID and original man)

Nah, I'm not. I'm saving up for a Mesa, and being a teenager that still lives on allowance*, I need to prioritize my spending.

*I have no time for a job because of IB work.

Someone else should jump on this one!

tell me how to post pics and I'll show you Crate Electra, headstock, set-neck and all. I just had a luthier got thru it, he cleaned the pots (said they were pretty good quality), aligned the pick ups, set it up with new strings for me and it is a dream. It's got a mahogany body with a thin maple veneer laminated to the top.
