Thought I'd chronicle the "rebuilding" here....

I got the completely gutted carcass of eBay for $105 shipped...
So that's my starting point...


I'm still gathering parts, and I have gathered some vintage parts, but wanted to take a crack at all new innards (save for the pickups and modules)...

here's my pic of new components... waiting for shipment of the 2 missing 150k ohm pots, but everything else is there...


it'll be a bit before I get going on this, but the parts gathering has been going well...
I had the battery connector, V&T pots, resistors, cap, and wire that were extras from past projects...
the new slot connectors are a fit and got the radio shack toggles.

Looking good. Could you give us some details on the slot connectors? Are they still made and if so by whom and what part number?

the slot connectors I found on eBay. they are not identical, as the originals only has one connector in the rear, and the ones I found, the top and bottom can be wired seperately. since the mpc modules are single sided, I just have to use the one side. otherwise they are the same.

as you can see in the pic, they do not have the holes drilled for mounting them in the guitar. the original ones were just like that, but were drilled out like I'll have to do with these...

the part number on the ones I have is LW-S10A2G, but if you want some, let me know. I had to buy a 20 pack of them $5 shipped for a pair of them....

the 150k ohm pots I had to buy "bulk" too, but they were pretty cheap too, and are NOS soviet made pots. I got 2 different styles. one style is almost like the mini-pots size wise, and those aparently aren't made to last for lots of use. more a set and forget type trim pot. the other style is the larger 1" size pot. it's the carbon style, so not the highest quality, but . I think I got 50 of the small ones and about 8 of the larger ones...

Thanks. I have what I nead for the hulk but gutted MPC's do turn up from time to time and if my financials improve I would take a go at one.

This one makes my Outlaw 'project' look like a walk in the park man. Best of luck, I'm sure you'll photo document the progress. We can't wait! Mike.


P.S. What kind of Pickups are you gonna put in there?

I got a pair of zebra MMK 45's of the 'bay to go in it....

yeah, I'll be taking photos... I'm working on a web page of all the projects I've done, and the Electra bass pictures I've gathers over the last several years... I'm also going to include links and discussion info Paul C. and I have had regarding the factories, etc....

and a full blown layout of the Corsair basses, and what models were made when, etc.... (the pages here are not quite correct...)

I put some black grovers on it...
and started this....





I think I may end up with an Abalone pickguard and trc, as I like the match to the fretboard inlays, plus I have some chrome knobs with shell tops already....

Machining raw aluminum stock..? You've got more guts than me. Best of luck, and thanks for photo documenting its progress, Mike.

P.S. That huge pickguard in Abalone may be a bit gaudy... although, didn't Paul Stanley used to have a mirror pickguard on his Ibanez? Put your mark on it man!

well, I can't guarantee it will look machine made, but I'll give it a go...

I may get a pickguard made in black first, to make sure the fit is good.... and to see if I want to keep it black... I'm sort of going for black hardware anyway... tuners, bridge, I may even paint the stop too...

The brass and aluminum should shape pretty easy with a good set of files. I find using a set of soft jaws in my vise made of aluminum angle, 2"x2" or 3"x3" (You can get it at Home Depot or Lowes) keeps from scratching or putting unwanted dents in the piece your working on. That way you can get the vise tight enough to keep the piece from moving when your working it down.

You gonna cut out a brass nut from that stick of brass also?

it's gonna be a bit before I start cutting on stuff, as I still don't have my vice set-up in my shop yet... still organizing after a move....

I actually already picked up a correct width brass nut with flat bottom, though I still need to get some files....
